Author: Seth Arthur Fessenden
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780365281771
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 304
Book Description
Excerpt from Speech and the Teacher These pages have been prepared in order that teachers and prospective teachers may draw strength from the contributions of speech. These pages do not presume to contain all that speech has to offer, but they do present enough of the bases of speech as related to teaching to point the way for the student. The purpose of the text is to aid the student who Wishes to be come an efficient classroom teacher. This text is designed for all prospective teachers. It is not a text designed to prepare teachers of speech. The effort is to prepare all teachers to use speech more effectively in all their classroom and extra-classroom work. Those students who will continue in their study of speech that they may become teachers of speech should find much to aid them in their future studies, but the emphasis is away from the training of Specialists. It is felt that there is too much that the classroom teacher needs to know about speech for teaching to spend time giving tech nical details which the future teacher of speech will learn in the more advanced courses. Further, it is felt that this type of detail would have little bearing upon the classroom teacher's ability to use the principles of speech presented. Therefore, detail and technical discussions beyond a necessary minimum have been avoided. Basically, this text endeavors to relate teaching principles with speech principles. Pedagogical references and applica tion have been held high throughout. Three major aspects have been developed: first, the speech of the teacher; second, the speech used by the teacher in teaching; and third, the speech used by the teacher for professional growth.
