Book Description
Negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy has been used to study two types of transient neutral species: bound free radicals (NO2 and NO3) and unstable neutral species ((IHI) and (FH2)). The negative ion time-of-flight photoelectron spectrometer used for these experiments is described in detail.

Spectroscopy and Dynamics of Transient and Energetic Species

Book Description
Free radicals, weakly bound van der Waals complexes, and metal and semiconductor clusters are characterized by photodetachment of the corresponding negative ions using slow electron velocity-map imaging (SEVI), a recently developed, high-resolution (2-3 cm-1) variant of negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy. The SEVI spectrum of a negative ion yields the electron affinity of the neutral, term values for excited states accessible via one-photon detachment, and accurate vibrational frequencies for the ground and accessible excited states. The combination of high energy resolution and the simultaneous measurement of photoelectron angular distributions provides a sensitive probe of adiabatic potential energy surfaces and vibronic coupling in neutral species formed by photodetachment. The SEVI experiments are complemented by infrared studies of size-selected negative ions and clusters using the free electron laser FELIX.

Photoionization and Photodetachment
Author: Cheuk-Yiu Ng

Book Description
Owing to the advances of vacuum ultraviolet and ultrafast lasers and third generation synchrotron sources, the research on photoionization, photoelectrons, and photodetachment has gained much vitality in recent years. These new light sources, together with ingenious experimental techniques, such as the coincidence imaging, molecular beam, pulsed field ionization photoelectron, mass-analyzed threshold ion, and pulsed field ion pair schemes, have allowed spectroscopic, dynamic, and energetic studies of gaseous species to a new level of detail and accuracy. Profitable applications of these methods to liquids are emerging. This invaluable two-volume review consists of twenty-two chapters, focusing on recent developments in photoionization and photodetachment studies of atoms; molecules, transient species, clusters, and liquids.
