The water management plan for the South Saskatchewan River Basin (SSRB) is intended to provide guidance to decision makers and act as a foundation for future watershed management planning of sub-basins in the SSRB by Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils and stewardship groups. The plan applies to all the named rivers and tributaries in the SSRB; these are: the Red Deer, Bow, Oldman, and South Saskatchewan River Sub-basins. Phase 1 of the South Saskatchewan River Basin (SSRB) Water Management Plan was completed in June 2002, with the issuance of the document: Phase One, Water Allocation Transfers. Phase 2 of the Water Management Plan began shortly thereafter, with the primary goal of finding the balance between water consumption and environmental protection in the basin.
