Book Description
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2022 in the subject Sociology - Children and Youth, grade: Final Year, Osun State University (Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute), course: Sociology, language: English, abstract: Drug misuse among youths creates harm to social and biological lifestyles, yet affects legitimate economic activities in society. In spite of the fact that poly-drug use and illegal use of drug is a crime, many youths still indulged in it due to the merriment moment they derive from it. In the light of these, some selected youth in Ede, Osun State made it known to the researcher that they consume drugs to reason well or meditate and to eliminate phobia. Not only that, but illicit drugs use among youths has ravaged Nigeria. The social and biological implications of drugs prevailing in the area and especially the knowledge and attitude to drug usage, the types of drugs being consumed, drug use pattern and evolving risk behaviour and factors influencing the usage of drugs among youth, thus seem worth of exploration. It is on this basis that this study examined the social and biological implication of drug usage among youths in Ede, Osun State. A questionnaire was the main instrument adopted to collect data for the study. A multistage sampling technique was adopted to reach the respondents as a result of which 200 residents of Ede at these selected communities: Orita fogo, Sagba joint, Abogunde Joint, Orita Akala, Atapara joint, Sabo agbongbe, Oke Obada joint, Owode-Ede joint, Laoye joint, Agate, Joint and Isibo Joint in Osun State were involved in the study. At the end of data collection, 200 copies of the questionnaire were retrieved and treated for data analysis. The data generated were analysed and interpreted with the aid of tabular distribution of respondents and simple frequency with percentage.

Traditional knowledge (TK) has contributed immensely to shaping development and human well-being. Its influence spans a variety of sectors, including agriculture, health, education and governance. However, in today's world, TK and its practitioners are increasingly underrpresented or under-utilized. Further, while the applicability of TK to human and environmental welfare is well-recognized, collated information on how TK contributes to different sectors is not easily accessible. --

Book Description
The Managed Body productively complicates ‘menstrual hygiene management’ (MHM)—a growing social movement to support menstruating girls in the Global South. Bobel offers an invested critique of the complicated discourses of MHM including its conceptual and practical links with the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) development sector, human rights and ‘the girling of development.’ Drawing on analysis of in-depth interviews, participant observations and the digital materials of NGOs and social businesses, Bobel shows how MHM frames problems and solutions to capture attention and direct resources to this highly-tabooed topic. She asserts that MHM organizations often inadvertently rely upon weak evidence and spectacularized representations to make the claim of a ‘hygienic crisis’ that authorizes rescue. And, she argues, the largely product-based solutions that follow fail to challenge the social construction of the menstrual body as dirty and in need of concealment. While cast as fundamental to preserving girls’ dignity, MHM prioritizes ‘technological fixes’ that teach girls to discipline their developing bodies vis a vis consumer culture, a move that actually accommodates more than it resists the core problem of menstrual stigma.

Book Description
This second edition of Bench aids for the diagnosis of intestinal parasites is intended both as a practical tool for the diagnosis of intestinal parasitic infections for laboratory and field workers and as a teaching aid for students and trainees. The plates are arranged on two sides: the recto with microphotographs for the identification of eggs larvae trophozoites cysts and oocysts occurring in faeces and the verso dedicated to the different copromicroscopical methods (procedures) and main staining techniques used in parasitology. Special attention has been devoted to all graphical and pictorial contents. The decision to include the outline of an Ascaris lumbricoides egg in its relative size next to each parasitic structure fulfils the intention of visualizing the actual dimensions that the eye needs to be looking for when examining the specimens with a microscope. For each image the size of the parasite and a short description are provided to assist in the microscopical identification. Two summary plates one for helminths and the other for protozoa are also included to provide a visual overview of the different presentations of parasitic elements. The bench aids have been produced in a weatherproof plastic-sealed format that is robust and easy to use at the bench. They are recommended for use by all health workers engaged in the routine diagnosis of intestinal parasitic infections.

Book Description
This collection of studies by experts on drug abuse treatment represents the state of the art in research examining what works best and why in a nationwide effort to improve and expand treatment to counteract the epidemic use of cocaine and the spread of AIDS. Investigators at the National Institute on Drug Abuse describe 15 projects that test intervention strategies to improve client recruitment, retention, performance, and treatment outcomes in a range of community-based programs relating to different populations, treatment settings, and research designs addressing real world issues. The findings, analysis, and recommendations should counteract misunderstanding and misinformation about the nature of drug abuse among 5.5 million patients and the effectiveness of current treatment programs. This report is meant for students, scholars, and professionals dealing with public health, criminal justice, America's social problems and governmental policies. This professional report describes innovative programs for improving the treatment of drug abuse. The first part of the book relates to methadone programs limiting the spread of HIV among high-risk narcotics addicts, improving retention on methadone maintenance, and enhancing treatment through a mobile health service. The second segment of the book deals with residential programs, assessing their impact, evaluating a specific outreach project, providing a longitudinal evaluation of dually diagnosed men in different community programs. Case management programs described in the third section of the study include an assessment of a model for intravenous drug users, an assertive community treatment project for hard-to-reach populations, and problems with and remedies for treatment drop-outs and noncompliers. The fourth part of the report concerns system-evaluation of strategies for dealing more effectively with drug abuse today. It covers multi-modality and other eclectic programs, such as a therapeutic community day treatment model for methadone clients, a behavioral model for treating cocaine addicts, treatments for AIDS risk reduction, and a drug day treatment using the therapeutic community model.
