Book Description
Seismic isolation is one of the earthquake protective technologies used for buildings, bridges and other structures as well as non-structural components. Among the seismic isolation technologies, the newly developed roller bearing system ensures constant and low acceleration of superstructure and regulates bearing displacement. However, due to the limited contact area, to withstand large vertical force, the size of rollers must be large. To overcome this problem, a special slider will be used in this thesis to replace the roller. This slider bearing will have the identical dynamic behavior as the roller bearing and will support considerably large weight. The sliding surface is combined with two different materials with different friction coefficient, so that the slider bearing can provide a desirable friction coefficient to dissipate seismic energy while minimizing bearing displacement. This thesis comprises both computational and experimental studies to examine the mechanical performance, along with an experimental study to analyze the uni-directional thermo-mechanical performance of this slider bearing system. The experiments are performed using a shaker table in the Structural Engineering and Earthquake Simulation Laboratory (SEESL), University at Buffalo. Four slider bearings are used to support a concrete mass as a superstructure on the table. Selected earthquake records are used as ground excitations. Accelerations of the table and superstructure were measured along with relative displacements between the table and superstructure. Both the theoretical and experimental studies presented here show great potential of this slider bearing system. The dynamic performance of this seismic isolation slider bearing is virtually identical to the roller bearing, ensuring low level of accelerations and minimum relative displacement. Moreover the slider itself can support more vertical loads with limited working areas.

Book Description
Widely used in civil, mechanical and automotive engineering since the early 1980s, multilayer rubber bearings have been used as seismic isolation devices for buildings in highly seismic areas in many countries. Their appeal in these applications comes from their ability to provide a component with high stiffness in one direction with high flexibility in one or more orthogonal directions. This combination of vertical stiffness with horizontal flexibility, achieved by reinforcing the rubber by thin steel shims perpendicular to the vertical load, enables them to be used as seismic and vibration isolators for machinery, buildings and bridges. Mechanics of Rubber Bearings for Seismic and Vibration Isolation collates the most important information on the mechanics of multilayer rubber bearings. It explores a unique and comprehensive combination of relevant topics, covering all prerequisite fundamental theory and providing a number of closed-form solutions to various boundary value problems as well as a comprehensive historical overview on the use of isolation. Many of the results presented in the book are new and are essential for a proper understanding of the behavior of these bearings and for the design and analysis of vibration or seismic isolation systems. The advantages afforded by adopting these natural rubber systems is clearly explained to designers and users of this technology, bringing into focus the design and specification of bearings for buildings, bridges and industrial structures. This comprehensive book: includes state of the art, as yet unpublished research along with all required fundamental concepts; is authored by world-leading experts with over 40 years of combined experience on seismic isolation and the behavior of multilayer rubber bearings; is accompanied by a website at www.wiley.com/go/kelly The concise approach of Mechanics of Rubber Bearings for Seismic and Vibration Isolation forms an invaluable resource for graduate students and researchers/practitioners in structural and mechanical engineering departments, in particular those working in seismic and vibration isolation.

※この商品はタブレットなど大きいディスプレイを備えた端末で読むことに適しています。また、文字だけを拡大することや、文字列のハイライト、検索、辞書の参照、引用などの機能が使用できません。 This book was compiled with the aim of providing reference materials specific to architectural designers (architects and designers) in order to promote further technical improvement and development of seismic isolation buildings. “How has seismic isolation architecture solved the diverse demands and complex problems faced by architecture?” “What are the points of seismic isolation architecture design?” “By dissecting seismic isolation architecture, you can feel more familiar with seismic isolation architecture”. The editorial theme was based on the historical background, such as “Sharing accumulated seismic isolation technology”. Preparations are being made not only by building owners and governments planning projects, but also in economic, cultural, medical, welfare, production, logistics, academic, and other fields where natural disasters occur frequently, and are preparing for major earthquakes that are sure to repeat in the future. This book aims to remove obstacles when considering the introduction of seismically isolated buildings. We hope that this book will be used as a guidebook to protect valuable social capital and illuminate the path to seismically isolated construction.

Book Description
Base isolation, passive energy dissipation and active control represent three innovative technologies for protection of structures under environmental loads. Increasingly, they are being applied to the design of new structures or to the retrofit of existing structures against wind, earthquakes and other external loads. This book, with contributions from leading researchers from Japan, Europe, and the United States, presents a balanced view of current research and world-wide development in this exciting and fast expanding field. Basic principles as well as practical design and implementational issues associated with the application of base isolation systems and passive and active control devices to civil engineering structures are carefully addressed. Examples of structural applications are presented and extensively discussed.

Book Description

Book Description
This book presents a comprehensive introduction to the field of structural vibration reduction control, but may also be used as a reference source for more advanced topics. The content is divided into four main parts: the basic principles of structural vibration reduction control, structural vibration reduction devices, structural vibration reduction design methods, and structural vibration reduction engineering practices. As the book strikes a balance between theoretical and practical aspects, it will appeal to researchers and practicing engineers alike, as well as graduate students.
