Book Description
Thin films of ever reducing thickness are used in a plethora of applications and their performance is highly dependent on their microstructure. Computer simulations could then play a vital role in predicting the microstructure of thin films as a function of processing conditions. FACET is one such software tool designed by our research group to model polycrystalline thin film growth, including texture evolution and grain growth of polycrystalline films in 2D.

Book Description
Metallic films play an important role in modern technologies such as integrated circuits, information storage, displays, sensors, and coatings. Metallic Films for Electronic, Optical and Magnetic Applications reviews the structure, processing and properties of metallic films. Part one explores the structure of metallic films using characterization methods such as x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. This part also encompasses the processing of metallic films, including structure formation during deposition and post-deposition reactions and phase transformations. Chapters in part two focus on the properties of metallic films, including mechanical, electrical, magnetic, optical, and thermal properties. Metallic Films for Electronic, Optical and Magnetic Applications is a technical resource for electronics components manufacturers, scientists, and engineers working in the semiconductor industry, product developers of sensors, displays, and other optoelectronic devices, and academics working in the field. - Explores the structure of metallic films using characterization methods such as x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy - Discusses processing of metallic films, including structure formation during deposition and post-deposition reactions and phase transformations - Focuses on the properties of metallic films, including mechanical, electrical, magnetic, optical, and thermal properties

Book Description
The focus of this book is on modeling and simulations used in research on the morphological evolution during film growth. The authors emphasize the detailed mathematical formulation of the problem. The book will enable readers themselves to set up a computational program to investigate specific topics of interest in thin film deposition. It will benefit those working in any discipline that requires an understanding of thin film growth processes.

Book Description
The annealing of deformed materials is of both technological importance and scientific interest. The phenomena have been most widely studied in metals, although they occur in all crystalline materials such as the natural deformation of rocks and the processing of technical ceramics. Research is mainly driven by the requirements of industry, and where appropriate, the book discusses the extent to which we are able to formulate quantitative, physically-based models which can be applied to metal-forming processes. The subjects treated in this book are all active research areas, and form a major part of at least four regular international conference series. However, there have only been two monographs published in recent times on the subject of recrystallization, the latest nearly 20 years ago. Since that time, considerable advances have been made, both in our understanding of the subject and in the techniques available to the researcher. The book covers recovery, recrystallization and grain growth in depth including specific chapters on ordered materials, two-phase alloys, annealing textures and annealing during and after hot working. Also contained are treatments of the deformed state and the structure and mobility of grain boundaries, technologically important examples and a chapter on computer simulation and modelling. The book provides a scientific treatment of the subject for researchers or students in Materials Science, Metallurgy and related disciplines, who require a more detailed coverage than is found in textbooks on physical metallurgy, and a more coherent treatment than will be found in the many conference proceedings and review articles.

Book Description
A wide variety of materials systems and deposition strategies have been developed to produce epitaxial and polycrystalline thin films. In particular, controlling the morphology and microstructure of metal films at the nanometer and/or micron scale has become crucial for applications such as giant magnetoresistive devices, contacts and diffusion barriers in integrated circuits and photovoltaics, and multilayer X-ray mirrors. This book, first published in 2001, focuses on the interactions between different mechanisms of microstructure evolution and film-growth conditions. Two sections of the volume, including a joint effort with Symposium R, Morphology and Dynamics of Crystal Surfaces in Molecular and Colloid Systems, highlight the fundamental mechanisms of epitaxial growth. Additional topics include: multilayers - stress in thin films; early stages of film growth - mechanical properties; texture in polycrystalline films; grain growth - barrier layers; and silicides and organic thin films - pulsed laser deposition.
