Book Description
"Show Them a Good Time is a master class in the short story-bold, irreverent and agonizingly funny." Sally Rooney, Author of Normal People and Conversations with Friends Show Them a Good Time tells the stories of women slotted away into restrictive roles: the celebrity's girlfriend, the widower's second wife, the lecherous professor's student, the corporate employee. But these women are too intelligent, too ferociously mordant and painfully funny to remain in their places. In "Not the End Yet,” Flattery probes the hilarious and wrenching ambivalence of Internet dating as the apocalypse nears; in "Sweet Talk,” the mysterious disappearance of local women sets the scene for a young girl to confront the dangerous uncertainties of her own sexuality; in "Abortion, A Love Story,” two college students in a dystopian campus reconfigure the perilous stories of their bodies in a fraught academic culture to offer a subversive play that takes over their own offstage lives. Together, the stories in Show Them a Good Time provide a riveting, hilarious introduction to one of today's most original young writers.

Book Description
This darkly humorous novel of a woman’s inner musings on motherhood, betrayal, dreams—and the unpredictable emotions that surround them—is “so moving, so funny, so desperate, so alive . . . one to be greatly enjoyed” (The New York Times). The “strange, fresh” feminist classic that inspired the 1964 film starring Anne Bancroft (Nick Hornby, author of Funny Girl). The Pumpkin Eater is a surreal black comedy about the wages of adulthood and the pitfalls of parenthood. A nameless woman speaks, at first from the precarious perch of a therapist’s couch, and her smart, wry, confiding, immensely sympathetic voice immediately captures and holds our attention. She is the mother of a vast, swelling brood of children, also nameless, and the wife of a successful screenwriter, Jake Armitage. The Armitages live in the city, but they are building a great glass tower in the country in which to settle down and live happily ever after. But could that dream be nothing more than a sentimental delusion? At the edges of vision the spectral children come and go, while our heroine, alert to the countless gradations of depression and the innumerable forms of betrayal, tries to make sense of it all: doctors, husbands, movie stars, bodies, grocery lists, nursery rhymes, messes, aging parents, memories, dreams, and breakdowns. How to pull it all together? Perhaps you start by falling apart.

Book Description
A Shock inhabits the secret life of a city, its hidden energies. It dramatizes how patterns form and then disperse, how stories are made and relationships created . . . remarkable' - Colm Tóibín, author of Brooklyn 'Political, pertinent, spunky and funny, A Shock is a grand sweep of modern storytelling' - June Caldwell, author of Room Little Darker In A Shock, a clutch of more or less loosely connected characters appear, disappear and reappear. They are all of them on the fringes of London life, often clinging on – to sanity or solvency or a story – by their fingertips. Keith Ridgway, author of the acclaimed Hawthorn & Child, writes about people whose understanding of their own situation is only ever partial and fuzzy, who are consumed by emotions and anxieties and narratives, or the lack thereof, that they cannot master. He focuses on peripheral figures who mean well and to whom things happen, and happen confusingly, and his fictional strategies reflect this focus. In a deftly conjured high-wire act, Ridgway achieves the fine balance between the imperatives of drama and fidelity to his characters. The result is pin-sharp and often breathtaking. 'A Shock is a perfect, living circle of beauty and mystery, clearsighted and compassionate, and, at times, wonderfully funny’ - David Hayden, author of Darker With the Lights On

His characters are captivating. Well-rendered dialogue keeps the pace moving quickly to its logical and deadly conclusion... A real gripper with an intricate and refreshing twist on an old theme." Feathered Quill Book Awards Judges' Comments: "The Circle is creepy... action-packed and very mysterious... not a story to forget." H.P. Waitt - Author of Band of Shadows: The Scarlet Onyx Saga "As a novel it has everything a reader could want: deeply developed characters you fall in love with (and characters you hate), a rapidly advancing plot that leaves you on the edge of your seat, and a jaw-dropping twist that even the most seasoned of thriller lovers won't see coming. I enjoyed every minute of it and can't want to see what's next - a sequel cannot come soon enough!" - Shanna O'Mara - The Navesink Journal "The Circle has the rapid progression and intense appeal of the ever-popular Divergent and The Hunger Games, but is laced with enough realism to plant the seed of fear -- or at the very least, mild suspicion -- in any reader now overanalyzing the world outside the book. Galgon brings to life a protagonist we can all root for and pity, a man whose background we can relate to but whose future we can only pray we never see. Highly recommend for any thrill-seeker or mystery lover! IMAGINE YOU HAD ALL THE MONEY YOU EVER WANTED at the push of a button. The power to control law enforcement, politicians at the highest levels, the judicial system as a whole. To have what you want when you want it, whatever it is. All you have to do is kill someone . . . before someone kills you. MEMBERS of THE CIRCLE don’t have to imagine such a life. They live it. The liberation of being both hunter and hunted. The salvation that comes with such freedom. A chance to feel truly alive. A chance to savor each precious moment. Because in THE CIRCLE any moment could be your last. DOUGLAS GOODWIN isn’t rich. He isn’t powerful. What could the sacred society of THE CIRCLE possibly want with him—just a regular guy with a regular job leading a regular life? What would drive them to coerce a young man who has always valued integrity over hedonism into their midst? And why would Doug agree to submersion in a world of secrecy and murder? It’s unthinkable. THE HARSH REALITY? Doug has been inducted into an institution where friends become enemies overnight, loyalty is a nothing more than a punchline, and conscience is a burden. Where he will be hunted and expected to hunt other members to their death. With no escape from THE CIRCLE’s ubiquitous influence and domination. HOW FAR WILL DOUG GO? How much will he sacrifice to preserve his way of life? Will he be swayed by the money, the women, the power? Or will THE CIRCLE consume him, as it has hundreds of others before him, and leave nothing but another nameless corpse in its wake?

Book Description
You're So Mummy is an honest take on 21st-century motherhood that sticks two finger-puppets up at parenting manuals. This isn't a book mothers can turn to for advice. It's not going to tell you how to make your kid sleep, or how to get them into a good school, or anything useful at all in fact. Instead it's a hilarious look at what's happening inside the minds of once-normal women who now find themselves in charge of small people. Lifelong best friends Sarah Thompson and Alex Manson-Smith agree that motherhood is the best thing that's happened to either of them, but wanted to read a book that acknowledged what a royal pain in the arse it can be. So that's what they've written. From not having sex to losing it over food, You're So Mummy covers the real issues confronting today's mothers. For mums who have been around the park too many times, You're So Mummy will make you howl in grateful recognition.

Book Description
You remember Wild, the somewhat spiritual memoir about the author’s amazing trek and heart-breaking backstory, right? This isn’t that. Although there is some wandering around that leads to recovery and redemption. And hiking did happen along the way. This could be A Million Little Pieces, but it’s not. This story is actually all true. Might even be Mommy Dearest, but thankfully, it’s not even close. For this story is told with heart and sensitivity. In fact, Walker is really about one woman’s spiritual journey to open her heart and develop compassion. Through it all, her own gumption would be her steady companion. The title of Walker evolved from a line in a poem: “There is no road, walker, you make the road by walking.” This phrase captures the narrative of Jill Loree’s life on many levels. From Proverbs and Tiny Songs You walking, your footsteps are the road, and nothing else; there is no road, walker, you make the road by walking. By walking you make the road, and when you look backward, you see the path that you never will step on again. Walker, there is no road, Only wind-trails in the sea. – By Antonio Machado (1875–1939), translated by Robert Bly Walker starts out with a young girl raised in a singing Lutheran family where things looked good on the outside. But inside, Jill Loree was struggling. Later, she would “trudge the dreary road of destiny,” as the AA Big Book puts it, getting sober at 26 and picking up only one white chip. That’s not nothing, considering that most of Jill Loree’s childhood memories are infused with her father’s drinking. Her mother, on the other hand, had a controlling, co-dependent streak that wouldn’t end. Sounds dreary indeed, right? In her spiritual memoir however, Jill Loree artfully lifts the story out of the ditch and finds the grace weaving between the lines. Walker also merges in a touch of poetry—her own, her sons’ and even her Dad’s—adding heart, depth and levity to the telling. Her gentle wit and brisk writing pace keeps things moving along. True to the title, there’s no need to sit and stew in misery. Yes, hard things happened along the way, but there was also delight. Jill Loree was a working mom who bumped up against a few bricks but managed to flow around most of them. In the end, her career in advertising and the corporate world would prove both challenging and rewarding; her role as a mother would both exhaust and fulfill her. Practically from the get-go, a spiritual message gets laid down, and it grows sturdier as the journey unfolds. From a youth spent singing in a church choir, through those atheistic years of alcoholism, and onto the great discovery of a transformational path called Pathwork, her spiritual life has been a tenacious wildflower that keeps blooming with each new season, and thriving. Today, Jill Loree’s spiritual path is filled with the light of Christ, which is what she has discovered emerges from the core of one’s being after clearing away the detritus accumulated in youth. Just as the Pathwork Guide said it would. That’s the deeper message she is now passionate about sharing, and which shines through in this warm telling of the story of her life.

Book Description
Hi. I’m Marissa Sanlier. Up until a few days ago, I was a twenty-year-old girl living with my great, great… maybe a few more greats… aunt in Pennsylvania. She died… mysteriously… and left me everything. Her fortune, her corporation, and this huge estate. But she also left me a note. That note led me to secrets that dated back thousands… tens of thousands of years and laid to rest the question of where we came from, why we were here, and who made us this way. I stumbled onto an ancestry of assassins dedicated to seeing the innocents remain free, and ensuring the plots of secret societies hidden in the shadows never come to pass. Secret societies that always existed, clouded in conspiracy theories, but whose history dates back to the birth of mankind! My great aunt trained me from a toddler to one day take her place… unknown to me… and I was now supposed to simply accept her role as guardian? The choice is clear. I could fade into a privileged lifestyle, ignore the genetic enhancements passed on to me by dead parents, and watch the world fall slowly into chaos, slavery, and total subjugation by those working in the shadows. Or I could take up the mantle of my ancestors and become… The Hawk!

Book Description
When Europeans first made contact with the Osages, they lived in present-day Missouri, along the Osage River. After being forced onto a reservation, the Osages purchased land from the Cherokees in Indian Territory and resettled in northeastern Oklahoma in the later part of the nineteenth century. Today the Osage tribe numbers about 18,000, but only two elders still speak the traditional language, a member of the Siouan family of languages. Osage Grammar is the first documentation of how the Osage language works, including more than two thousand sentences from Osage speakers, and a detailed description of its phonology, morphology, and syntax. Also featured are such components as verb conjugations, derivation, and suffixes; kinship terms; and the nominal system. The importance of documenting a language, especially when on the verge of extinction, can hardly be overstated. Growing up in Osage County, Oklahoma, Carolyn Quintero has been documenting the Osage language for twenty years, speaking to more than a dozen elders and transcribing hundreds of hours of interviews. Her research could not now be repeated since most of the elders whose words appear on these pages are gone. This book will become an essential reference and guide for all scholars and students interested in the Osage language and in other Siouan languages of the West. Osage Grammar will also serve as a bedrock for the present revitalization of Osage culture and language within the community.
