In one or two cases portions of different articles bearing on the same subject have been incorporated. It was of course inevitable in dealing, under the necessary limitations of space, with themes of wide and varied import, on many of which whole volumes might be written, that a method of treatment should be adopted suggestive rather than exhaustive, with a view to bringing out the salient points, and thus refreshing the memory or stimulating the minds of those who may lack leisure or opportunity for more serious study.
