Book Description
In today's volunteer military many recruits enlist for the educational benefits, yet a significant number of veterans struggle in the classroom, and many drop out. The difficulties faced by student veterans have been attributed to various factors: poor academic preparation, PTSD and other postwar ailments, and allegedly antimilitary sentiments on college campuses. In Grateful Nation Ellen Moore challenges these narratives by tracing the experiences of Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans at two California college campuses. Drawing on interviews with dozens of veterans, classroom observations, and assessments of the work of veteran support organizations, Moore finds that veterans' academic struggles result from their military training and combat experience, which complicate their ability to function in civilian schools. While there is little evidence of antimilitary bias on college campuses, Moore demonstrates the ways in which college programs that conflate support for veterans with support for the institutional military lead to suppression of campus debate about the wars, discourage antiwar activism, and encourage a growing militarization.

Book Description
This tale is about a boy who lost his father to an auto-train accident at age eight. The story traverses his climb from the lowest rung in life while shining shoes on the dusty streets. The tale leads through his many experiences in life. His determination and drive were fed by his refusal to accept his lowly position on the totem pole of fate. This drove him to vow that he would never accept that status. His faith, his belief that God would help him, came in the form of a gift from God, literally a message he took as a sign that God would always be there for him. The "message" was a candy bar he found in a sealed loaf of bread, literally an answer to an eight-year-old's prayers. He was almost washed overboard while on his Navy ship as angry waves tore his body from the guide wires on the bow of the ship. He knew clearly then that he had been in God's hands. This is a story of perseverance, of dogged determination, and a fixed mindset to never, never, never give up! It is a story about helping others, about values, and about respect for the good and the bad in our midst. It is a story of struggles, of major victories, and tragic losses. It is a story of a deep and abiding faith that powered his drive to recovery. It is a story about adventure, growth, intrigue, and incredible experiences-Shine Sir?

Book Description
National Book Award Winner! This deeply provocative novel reimagines the past as an eerie place that has startling resonance for readers today. It sounds like a fairy tale. He is a boy dressed in silks and white wigs and given the finest of classical educations. Raised by a group of rational philosophers known only by numbers, the boy and his mother — a princess in exile from a faraway land — are the only persons in their household assigned names. As the boy's regal mother, Cassiopeia, entertains the house scholars with her beauty and wit, young Octavian begins to question the purpose behind his guardians' fanatical studies. Only after he dares to open a forbidden door does he learn the hideous nature of their experiments — and his own chilling role in them. Set against the disquiet of Revolutionary Boston, M. T. Anderson's extraordinary novel takes place at a time when American Patriots rioted and battled to win liberty while African slaves were entreated to risk their lives for a freedom they would never claim. The first of two parts, this deeply provocative novel reimagines the past as an eerie place that has startling resonance for readers today.

Book Description
Heavenly Son Shine by “The Poet” Thomas Kruger In February 1937, “The Poet” Thomas Kruger was born in the little town of Pierceton, Indiana. He grew up and currently lives on the east side of Webster Lake. He loves to hunt, trap, and fish. His greatest passion was fly fishing and he and his family (wife and five girls) lived pretty much off the land. He enjoys being outdoors and loves to take his grandchildren camping and fishing. In February 1977, at forty years old, Kruger came to know the Lord and, immediately, the Lord gave him the gift of verse to share the word of God in poetry. On October 5th, 2015, he was in a motorcycle accident that injured him. While in the nursing home for rehab, he wrote many more poems and, of this writing, he has written 1300 poems and is still going strong. He is currently doing much better. Thus far, Kruger has had six books published and this book, Heavenly Son Shine, will be his seventh. Three of those seven were published by RoseDog Books and Kruger calls them “great people to work with.” He has also written another book to be published by RoseDog Books entitled White Eagle. It was written in 1985 and never published until now. It is an adventure of a ten-year-old boy who became a mountain man.
