Settling Ponds for Placer Mining Operations
Placer Mining Settling Ponds, Vol. One
Author:

ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 101
Book Description
Mining of placer gold generates wastewaters containing high concentrations of fine sediment. Previous studies have concluded that the most practicable method of placer mine wastewater treatment is some form of settling pond system. This report first reviews the major factors that influence placer mining effluent quality and describes mine site constraints for different types of operations. It then reviews the applications and limitations of sedimentation theory and alternative pond design methods as shown in previous studies. A recommended design approach is presented. The next section describes detailed design criteria for settling pond systems, including those relating to data determination, pond size, and pond layout. The final sections review applications and limitations of alternative wastewater treatment methods, and outlines requirements for further research on settling pond systems.

Placer Mining Wastewater Settling Pond Demonstration Project
Author: Alaska. Department of Environmental Conservation
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Gold mines and mining
Languages : en
Pages : 60
Book Description
A study was conducted on the effectiveness of settling ponds for treatment of effluent water from Alaska placer gold mines. As part of the study, a demonstration settling pond was designed; constructed at an operating mine on Porcupine Creek near Central, Alaska; and monitored for 50 days during the 1981 mining season. In addition, water quality at fifteen other mines (all located in either the Fairbanks or Circle mining districts) were periodically sampled during the season. This report contains the collected data along with the evaluation and conclusions that have been derived from these data.
