Sequence Transformations
Author: Jean-Paul Delahaye
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642613470
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 262
Book Description
The book gives a very clear and concise summary of the important fields of sequence transformations and convergence acceleration methods. Some of the outstanding features are: - precise definitions of algorithmic sequence transformations, - a study of the power of sequence transformations, - proof of negative results on acceleration methods (namely, that some sequence families are not accelerable), - new algorithms for convergence acceleration (in particular automatic selection procedures). For researchers and graduate students working in or with convergence acceleration methods and sequence transformations, this book is sure to become an important tool. This book is a contribution to the theory and practice of convergence acceleration methods. It gives a new survey point of view on the subject, with positive results (new method of acceleration) and negative results (proofs that some sequence families are not accelerable).

Matrix Computations and Semiseparable Matrices
Author: Raf Vandebril
Publisher: JHU Press
ISBN: 0801896797
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 594
Book Description
In recent years several new classes of matrices have been discovered and their structure exploited to design fast and accurate algorithms. In this new reference work, Raf Vandebril, Marc Van Barel, and Nicola Mastronardi present the first comprehensive overview of the mathematical and numerical properties of the family's newest member: semiseparable matrices. The text is divided into three parts. The first provides some historical background and introduces concepts and definitions concerning structured rank matrices. The second offers some traditional methods for solving systems of equations involving the basic subclasses of these matrices. The third section discusses structured rank matrices in a broader context, presents algorithms for solving higher-order structured rank matrices, and examines hybrid variants such as block quasiseparable matrices. An accessible case study clearly demonstrates the general topic of each new concept discussed. Many of the routines featured are implemented in Matlab and can be downloaded from the Web for further exploration.

ISBN: 1483277844
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 447
Book Description
Perspectives in Computing, Vol. 19: Reliability in Computing: The Role of Interval Methods in Scientific Computing presents a survey of the role of interval methods in reliable scientific computing, including vector arithmetic, language description, convergence, and algorithms. The selection takes a look at arithmetic for vector processors, FORTRAN-SC, and reliable expression evaluation in PASCAL-SC. Discussions focus on interval arithmetic, optimal scalar product, matrix and vector arithmetic, transformation of arithmetic expressions, development of FORTRAN-SC, and language description with examples. The text then examines floating-point standards, algorithms for verified inclusions, applications of differentiation arithmetic, and interval acceleration of convergence. The book ponders on solving systems of linear interval equations, interval least squares, existence of solutions and iterations for nonlinear equations, and interval methods for algebraic equations. Topics include interval methods for single equations, diagnosing collinearity, interval linear equations, effects of nonlinearity, and bounding the solutions. The publication is a valuable source of data for computer science experts and researchers interested in the role of interval methods in reliable scientific computing.

Numerical Integration
Author: T.O. Espelid
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401126461
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 363
Book Description
This volume contains refereed papers and extended abstracts of papers presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop entitled 'Numerical Integration: Recent Develop ments, Software and Applications', held at the University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway, June 17-21,1991. The Workshop was attended by thirty-eight scientists. A total of eight NATO countries were represented. Eleven invited lectures and twenty-three contributed lectures were presented, of which twenty-five appear in full in this volume, together with three extended abstracts and one note. The main focus of the workshop was to survey recent progress in the theory of methods for the calculation of integrals and show how the theoretical results have been used in software development and in practical applications. The papers in this volume fall into four broad categories: numerical integration rules, numerical integration error analysis, numerical integration applications and numerical integration algorithms and software. It is five years since the last workshop of this nature was held, at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, in 1986. Recent theoretical developments have mostly occurred in the area of integration rule construction. For polynomial integrating rules, invariant theory and ideal theory have been used to provide lower bounds on the numbers of points for different types of multidimensional rules, and to help in structuring the nonlinear systems which must be solved to determine the points and weights for the rules. Many new optimal or near optimal rules have been found for a variety of integration regions using these techniques.

Handbook of Function and Generalized Function Transformations
Author: Ahmed I. Zayed
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0429605390
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 684
Book Description
Function transformations, which include linear integral transformations, are some of the most important mathematical tools for solving problems in all areas of engineering and the physical sciences. They allow one to quickly solve a problem by breaking it down into a series of smaller, more manageable problems. The author has compiled the most important and widely used of these function transforms in applied mathematics and electrical engineering. In addition to classical transforms, newer transforms such as wavelets, Zak, and Radon are included. The book is neither a table of transforms nor a textbook, but it is a source book that provides quick and easy access to the most important properties and formulas of function and generalized function transformations.
