Taste and Odour in Source and Drinking Water
Author: Tsair-Fuh Lin
Publisher: IWA Publishing
ISBN: 1780406657
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 322
Book Description
This book provides an updated evaluation of the characterization and management of taste and odour (T&O) in source and drinking waters. Authored by international experts from the IWA Specialist Group on Off-flavours in the Aquatic Environment, the book represents an important resource that synthesizes current knowledge on the origins, mitigation, and management of aquatic T&O problems. The material provides new knowledge for an increasing widespread degradation of source waters and global demand for high quality potable water. Key topics include early warning, detection and source-tracking, chemical, sensory and molecular diagnosis, treatment options for common odorants and minerals, source management, modelling and risk assessment, and future research directions. Taste and Odour in Source and Drinking Water is directed towards a wide readership of scientists, engineers, technical operators and managers, and presents both practical and theoretical material, including an updated version of the benchmark Drinking Water Taste and Odour Wheel and a new biological wheel to provide a practical and informative tool for the initial diagnosis of the chemical and biological sources of aquatic T&O.

Sensory Assessment of Water Quality
Author: B. C. J. Zoeteman
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483150305
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 163
Book Description
Environmental Science, Volume 2: Sensory Assessment of Water Quality presents the methods for sensory water quality assessment. This book discusses the various aspects of the problem of impaired taste and odor of water. Organized into seven chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the significance attributed to sensory assessment of water quality. This text then examines the results obtained on sensory water quality assessment and on general water quality appraisal. Other chapters describe the 20 types of drinking water and consider the effects of the sensory water quality assessment factors on water consumption. This book discusses as well the types of chemical compounds present and their relation to water taste. The final chapter deals with the number of applications and recommendations to assess sensory water quality aspects at least weekly in the case of surface water supplies by making an inquiry among the consumers located in the area served. This book is a valuable resource for chemists.

Hydrocarbons and Halogenated Hydrocarbons in the Aquatic Environment
Author: D. MacKay
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468436171
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 588
Book Description
This volume contains papers selected from those presented at the International Symposium on the Analysis of Hydrocarbons and Halogenated Hydrocarbons in the Aquatic Environment, May 23-25, 1978. The Symposium was organized by the National Water Research Institute of Environment Canada and the Institute for Environmental Studies of the University of Toronto. The purpose of the Symposium and of this volume was to bring together information on the analyses, behaviour and effects of hydro carbons and halogenated hydrocarbons on the aquatic environment. This class of contaminants presents many difficult analytical pro blems, and to a large extent our ability to identify environmental problems and assess their severity, depends on the availability of proved analytical techniques. By exposing workers in this field to the techniques and results of others we hope that progress can be made towards solving the many problems caused by these substances. The papers in this volume are divided into five categories: two plenary session addresses given by J.P. Bruce and O. Hutzinger, 11 papers describing quantitative analytical results, 12 papers on analytical methods, 9 papers on incidence, monitoring and pathways; and finally, 13 papers on drinking water, health and biological effects. We were fortunate in having the support of the many organizations and individuals listed after this preface. In particular we thank B.F. Scott and R. Knechtel for their help in organizing the Symposium, S. Paterson, C. Straka, B. Reuber, A. Bobra, R. Wan, S. Austin, G.E.
