Book Description
For more than five decades, scientists and researchers have relied on the Advances in Chromatography series for the most up-to-date information on a wide range of developments in chromatographic methods and applications. For Volume 55, established, well-known chemists offer cutting-edge reviews of chromatographic methods to pay tribute to the late Eli Grushka, beloved series editor, who inspired and mentored many in the field of separation science. The clear presentation of topics and vivid illustrations for which this series has become known makes the material accessible and engaging to analytical, biochemical, organic, polymer, and pharmaceutical chemists at all levels of technical skill.

Book Description
Cardiac cell biology has come of age. Recognition of activated or modified signaling molecules by specific antibodies, new selective inhibitors, and fluorescent fusion tags are but a few of the tools used to dissect signaling pathways and cross-talk mechanisms that may eventually allow rational drug design. Understanding the regulation of cardiac hypertrophy in all its complexity remains a fundamental goal of cardiac research. Since the advancement of adenovirally mediated gene transfer, transfection efficiency is no longer a limiting factor in the study of cardiomyocytes. A limiting factor in considering cell transplantion as a strategy to repair the damaged heart is cell availability at the right time. Cardiac gap junctions, intercellular communication channels that allow electrical and metabolic coupling and play an important role in arrhythmogenesis are now understood to be exquisite sensors of cardiac change. The reports in this volume incLude elegant studies that made use of cutting edge technological advances and many specialized reagents to address these issues.

Book Description
PEGylation technology and key applications are introduced by this topical volume. Basic physical and chemical properties of PEG as basis for altering/improving in vivo behaviour of PEG-conjugates such as increased stability, improved PK/PD, and decreased immunogenicity, are discussed. Furthermore, chemical and enzymatic strategies for the coupling and the conjugate characterization are reported. Following chapters describe approved and marketed PEG-proteins and PEG-oligonucleotides as well as conjugates in various stages of clinical development.

Book Description
The next revolution in molecular medicine is the application of molecular profiling to individualized patient therapy. Molecular profiling technology has advanced dramatically, particularly in the field of cancer tissue biomarkers. It is now possible to gather complex genomic and proteomic information from a routine clinical needle biopsy or surgical specimen. In Molecular Profiling : Methods and Protocols, expert researchers in the field focus on the entire process from discovery to commercialization, with practical guides that are not limited to experimental methods. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular BiologyTM series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, as well as essays and guidelines for grants, patents, and commercialization of products related to molecular profiling. Authoritative and practical, Molecular Profiling: Methods and Protocols seeks to aid scientists in understanding the latest advancements in genomics, proteomics, imagining, and bioinformatics.

Book Description
The purpose of Renal Cancer: Methods and Protocols is to introduce the surgeon, clinician, investigator, and research scientist to the basic methods employed in the diagnosis and treatment of renal cancer. Treatment of localized renal cancer is surgical. Treatment of metastasis with resection, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy has had limited results. Therefore, new avenues of treatment are necessary. In planning this work, I have attempted to incorporate coverage by specialists from a variety of disciplines, each applying their individual expertise in renal cancer therapy. Though many of the participating authors are urologists, there are also valuable contributions from medical oncologists, laboratory inv- tigators, and pathologists. One of the inherent problems in publishing a book that describes molecular techniques, especially those techniques that are rapidly evolving, is that some of these may become obsolete after a few years. However, many of the procedures detailed here are standard approaches that have already wi- stood the test of time. Reverse transcriptase PCR, or RT-PCR, a technique that produces m- tiple copies of selected sequences of DNA, has a sensitivity of a millionfold amplication of a single cell, and thus constitutes a very precise technique for measuring the presence of tumor cells. By combining this technique with genomic hybridization, cadherin,ß and metalloproteinase expression we may then reveal other important factors in the detection, staging, aggressiveness, and treatment of this disease.
