Book Description
This textbook provides a unified treatment of waves that either occur naturally or can be excited and propagated in various media. This includes both longitudinal and transverse waves. The book covers both mechanical and electrical waves, which are normally covered separately due to their differences in physical phenomena.

Book Description
This book presents the proceedings of the International Conference on Cyber-Physical Systems and Control (CPS&C'2019), held in Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary in 2019. The CPS&C'2019 was dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the partnership between Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and Leibniz University of Hannover. Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are a new generation of control systems and techniques that help promote prospective interdisciplinary research. A wide range of theories and methodologies are currently being investigated and developed in this area to tackle various complex and challenging problems. Accordingly, CPSs represent a scientific and engineering discipline that is set to make an impact on future systems of industrial and social scale that are characterized by the deep integration of real-time processing, sensing, and actuation into logical and physical heterogeneous domains. The CPS&C'2019 brought together researchers and practitioners from all over the world and to discuss cross-cutting fundamental scientific and engineering principles that underline the integration of cyber and physical elements across all application fields. The participants represented research institutions and universities from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Syria, Ukraine, the USA, and Vietnam. These proceedings include 75 papers arranged into five sections, namely keynote papers, fundamentals, applications, technologies, and education and social aspects.

Book Description
This book presents the design and manufacturing of microsystems as well as necessary key technologies developed within the Collaborative Research Center 516. The research efforts of this collaboration are focused on active micro systems which are based on the electromagnetic actuator principle. The travel of the investigated actuator systems is on the order of several millimeters. The total construction size of the actuator is on the range of several centimeters whereas essential structures being several micrometers. The methods and the production technologies that are investigated on the basis of various research models incorporate the fundamental process chains of microsystems.

Book Description
In this study, a mechanical field weakening method that is applied to enhance the high-speed performance of a PM brushless machine by reducing the active axial machine length is analyzed in terms of its operational characteristics and efficiency. For this purpose, an existing multi-phase brushless DC (BLDC) machine with an axially displaceable rotor is used. First, the parameters of this machine, such as back EMF, torque constant and phase inductances are determined for various axial rotor positions by using 2-D and 3-D FEM analyses. Then, the determined machine parameters are used to build a dynamic simulation model of the drive system. By using this developed system model, the operational characteristics including the limits of the mechanical field weakening method are analyzed. In the second place, the efficiency of the BLDC machine is investigated, laying the main focus of attention on the additional losses in the field weakening range. In order to determine these losses, new numerical and measurement methods are developed. Furthermore, the measurement results are used to validate the numerical results. Finally, recommendations for PM brushless machines with an axially displaceable stator/rotor including possible design measures to reduce the additional losses and the application of mechanical field weakening are presented.
