Book Description
Abstract: Despite the absence of experimental evidence, weak scale supersymmetry remains one of the best motivated and studied Standard Model extensions. This talk summarizes recent ATLAS results on searches for supersymmetric squarks and gluinos, including third generation squarks produced directly or via decay of gluinos. The searches involve final states containing jets (possibly identified as coming from b-quarks), missing transverse momentum and, in some cases, leptons, and were performed with pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV

Book Description
Zusammenfassung: A search for squarks and gluinos in final states containing jets, missing transverse momentum and no high-momentum electrons or muons is presented. The studies presented in this thesis extend the sensitivity of the previous analysis by including new selections and by substantially improving the background determination and the systematic uncertainties. No excess above the Standard Model background expectation is observed in both 7 and 8 TeV data collected by the ATLAS experiment. Limits are set on the squark and gluino masses in a number of SUSY scenarios in the MSSM model. These limits considerably extend the region of supersymmetric parameter space excluded by previous measurements with the ATLAS detector

Book Description
Abstract: A search for the supersymmetric partners of quarks and gluons (squarks and gluinos) in final states containing hadronic jets and missing transverse momentum, but no electrons or muons, is presented. The data used in this search were recorded in 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS experiment in √s=13 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1. The results are interpreted in the context of various models where squarks and gluinos are pair produced and the neutralino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. An exclusion limit at the 95% confidence level on the mass of the gluino is set at 2.03 TeV for a simplified model incorporating only a gluino and the lightest neutralino, assuming the lightest neutralino is massless. For a simplified model involving the strong production of mass-degenerate first- and second-generation squarks, squark masses below 1.55 TeV are excluded if the lightest neutralino is massless. These limits substantially extend the region of supersymmetric parameter space previously excluded by searches with the ATLAS detector

Book Description
A search for squarks and gluinos in all hadronic final states in \sqrt(s) = 13 TeV proton-proton collisions using an integrated luminosity of 13.3 fb^-1 collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. The search is the first to use Recursive Jigsaw Reconstruction, a technique to impose a particular decay tree interpretation on events. The decay tree is resolved using jigsaw rules, which define boosts between the relevant reference frames to define an uncorrelated basis of variables to describe the decay. The Recursive Jigsaw Reconstruction variables are used to define a set of selections with sensitivity to pair produced squarks and gluinos. No excess is observed over the Standard Model background. Results are interpreted in simplified models where squarks and gluinos are pair produced and decay to jets and the lightest supersymmetric particle. These limits substantially extend the region of supersymmetric phase space excluded by previous searches.

Book Description
This thesis focuses on searches for squarks with the ATLAS detector in "compressed" scenarios where the scalar top is very close in mass to the lightest supersymmetric particle. These models are theoretically appealing because the presence of a quasi-degenerate scalar top enhances the self-annihilation cross-section of the lightest supersymmetric particle, acting therefore as a regulator of the dark matter relic density. Two main analyses are presented: the first is a search for scalar tops decaying to charm quarks. The identification of jets originating from the charm quark is very challenging due to its short lifetime. The calibration of tools for charm-tagging has paved the way to measuring the decay of the Higgs boson to pairs of charm quarks. The second analysis presented is the development of a novel technique for reconstructing low momentum b-hadrons. This tool has enabled the ATLAS collaboration to explore topologies that were previously inaccessible.
