Adam Sherrill, son of William Sherrill, was born in about 1700 in Cecil County, Maryland. He married Elizabeth in about 1722 and they had eight sons and possibly two daughters. Their son, Samuel, was born October 1, 1725 in Cecil County. In 1742 the family moved to Virginia. Samuel married Mary in 1746. They had nine children. In 1747 Adam and his children and married children's families moved to Rowan County, North Carolina and were the first settlers in the area. Samuel died in Washington County, Georgia in 1800. Descendants and relatives lived in Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas and elsewhere.

"The Cullman Democrat was established about 25 years after the first newspaper to publish in the town named for the famous German settler, John G. Cullman. While it came relatively late on the scene, its circulation soon grew to match that of the most successful Alabama weekly newspapers. The Democrat was first published by Major W.F. Palmer in June of 1901. Palmer sold the paper to R.L. and J.E. Griffin in 1902, but by the end of January of 1903, the paper was purchased by Joseph Robert Rosson. Gabriel Prescott married Abigail Fairist in Walton on Hill, Lancashire, England in 1715. John Sephton Prescott (1835-1874), his great-great- great-grandson, was the son of James Prescott and Mary Sephton, born in Aughton, Lancashire. James later married Margaret Westhead and Ann Rutter Horrocks and settled in Bountiful, Davis Co., Utah. John married Saloma Leanna Hammon (1845-1913) in Uinta, Weber Co., Utah and settled in Liberty, Bear Lake Co., Idaho. Her parents were Levi Hammon and Polly Chapman Bybee of Skauks Creek, Knox Co., Ohio. She was a descendant of Johan Philip Haman or Hamman, whose family settled in Northampton Co., Pennsylvania. Saloma later married William Alfred Hymas (1837-1916), the son of William and Mary Ann Atkins Hymas, originally from Rayleigh, Essex, England. Their descendants settled in California, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Washington, Colorado, Texas and elsewhere.
