Book Description
An Attempt Has Been Made In This Book To Examine The Writings Of The Oxbridge Scholars Who Have Based Their Studies On Different Assumptions And Have Tried To Cover Various Issues Related To The Partition Of India. The Author Has Made A Serious Effort To Trace The Course Of The British Historiography Of India S Partition. In The Light Of New Research And Facts, Several Age-Old, Deliberate But Fallacious Assumptions And Constructs Have Been Deconstructed. In The Process Of This Analysis Several Gaps Have Been Detected And The Underlying Aims Of The Imperialist Efforts Have Been Exposed. On The Top Of It, Various Sophisticated Versions Of The Theories Of Civilizing Mission And Whiteman S Burden In The Post-Colonial Context Have Been Challenged On Several Counts. In Spite Of Several Changes In The Imperialist Writings, It Has Been Found That Even The Neo-Imperial Historians Have Been Extending Their Support To The Several Myths, Deliberately Created By The Orthodox Imperial Ideologues About India S Past And Present. The Only Difference Is That The Former Have Been More Delicate And Sophisticated In Their Presentations. Thus, This Book Opens Up New Areas For Further Research And Will Generate More Curiosity Among The Students Of Indian, Pakistani And British History And Those Who Are Concerned With The Problems Of Nationalism And Decolonisation.

Book Description
Political Representation in India: Ideas and Contestations, 1908–1952 maps extensive and wide-ranging debates, marked by contestations and strident demands on political representation in colonial India. Further, it explores these themes during the Constitution-framing process. These debates, previously overlooked, are significant for they helped shape the institutional structures of political representation in the form of the electoral system of Indian democracy. It assists in providing an answer to why and how independent India came to adopt its current electoral system characterised by the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) system. It also analyses how and why the alternatives to FPTP, primarily any form of proportional representation, were rejected. Moreover, the book simultaneously provides a rich and detailed description of how communities, and religious, caste and ethnic categories came to be defined as their demands for political representation were conceded. It also briefly deals with the issue of delimitation of constituencies during the colonial and the immediate post-independence period.

Book Description
In this collection of nine essays on Islam in India, Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi illuminates the truth of the historical "Muslim era" in India. Nadwi seeks to both share Indian culture with others and to broaden the national perspective in India on the nation’s Islamic history. The essays in this slim volume are explorations ranging from the positive effects of Islam on India historically to modern day problems, such as imbalanced textbooks and Urdu’s status as a second-class language. There are exhaustive essays on Indian scholars of religion and language, outstanding Muslim personalities, and Sufi saints. Nadwi explores how Islamic civilisation in this region has manifested itself as a blend with Indian culture. He devotes individual chapters to both the medieval educational system and the new educational institutions founded in the age of and in fear of foreign influence. A chapter on the role of Muslims in the struggle for freedom begins with Tipu Sultan in the early part of British imperialism and continues on all the way through partition. Broad in its scope and detailed in its execution, Muslims in India is an enthusiastic look at the beautiful culture that has flourished at the juncture of India and Islam throughout the ages.
