La résorption radiculaire est la disparition progressive partielle, voire totale des tissus radiculaires dentaires. C'est une des complications les plus fréquemment rencontrées au cours d'un traitement orthodontique. Après un rappel des mécanismes biologiques responsables de ce phénomène, le diagnostic radiologique et le diagnostic étiologique de ces résorptions seront détaillés grâce à une revue de littérature. Les facteurs de risques sont les facteurs biologiques (généraux, systémiques, thérapeutiques, locaux et traumatiques) et les facteurs mécaniques. Les moyens de prévention et de traitement des résorptions seront détaillés. Enfin, nous aborderons, la responsabilité et les obligations qui incombent au praticien. Il ressort des multiples études réalisées que les mécanismes qui contrôlent, provoquent et régulent la résorption radiculaire orthodontique sont encore mal connus et qu'il existe une très grande variabilité interindividuelle. Au-delà de tous les moyens de prévention abordés que sont un interrogatoire précis et complet, un examen clinique et un contrôle radiologique approfondi et régulier, si malgré tout des résorptions radiculaires sévères apparaissent, il faut savoir interrompre le traitement, informer le patient et lui proposer d'autres solutions thérapeutiques.
