Book Description
Transport property measurements with ultrasonic techniques are discussed over the entire temperature (100-15,000 degrees) and pressure (1-1000 atm) ranges. A chart of various techniques for the determination of transport properties in the various temperature and pressure ranges is given. Sound absorption and sound speed determinations were used to obtain thermophysical properties of argon, helium, nitrogen and air at room temperature and pressures between 1-500 atm. Several variations of pulsed ultrasonic techniques were used to obtain maximum precision in the gas property measurements. Sound speeds accurate to approximately 0.1% were obtained in all the gases. Thermal conductivity and specific heat ratios were deduced for air. A cavity technique was developed for high accuracy (

Experimental Determination of the Transport Properties of Gases
Author: Edmund H. Carnevale

Languages : en
Pages : 65
Book Description
Methods of experimentally determining the transport properties of high temperature gases are discussed. A constant area helium driven shock tube is used as the high temperature gas source. The two methods presently under investigation are heat transfer and ultrasonic. Heat transfer rate measurements have been obtained in argon, nitrogen, and oxygen for temperatures up to 8000 K. Preliminary thermal conductivity data are presented for oxygen for temperatures up to 4000 K. The ultrasonic method has been used in determining temperatures of shock heated argon (up to 9000 K) and nitrogen (up to 3000 K). The extension of the ultrasonic method in determining transport properties of gases at elevated temperatures is indicated. (Author).

Ultrasonic Measurements for Process Control
Author: Lawrence C. Lynnworth
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0323138039
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 715
Book Description
Engineers, scientists, and technologists will find here, for the first time, a clear and comprehensive account of applications of ultrasonics in the field of process control. Using numerous examples of high-volume, low-cost applications, the author illustrates how the use of new transducer materials and designs, combined with microprocessor-based electronics, make technical and financial sense for concepts that only a few years ago might have been of interest only to academicians. Some of the important topics covered include coupling, acoustic isolation, transducer and sensor design, and signal detection in the presence of noise.
