One week after California was admitted to the Union, the Secretary of the Treasury reported on matters in the new state. His recommendations included establishing customs houses in San Francisco, Monterey, and San Diego; lighthouses; and a marine hospital for sailors and a branch mint in San Francisco. It described the land lease for the custom house in San Francisco and navigational considerations along the California coast. These items were described in Rodman's report.
