Book Description
This book presents two new ideas: the justification of formal manipulations in the proof of multiplicativity of the gamma factor, through a uniqueness principle, and the use of a key identity in this proof to reduce the unramified computation in the case l

Analytic Number Theory
Author: Henryk Iwaniec
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 1470467704
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 615
Book Description
Analytic Number Theory distinguishes itself by the variety of tools it uses to establish results. One of the primary attractions of this theory is its vast diversity of concepts and methods. The main goals of this book are to show the scope of the theory, both in classical and modern directions, and to exhibit its wealth and prospects, beautiful theorems, and powerful techniques. The book is written with graduate students in mind, and the authors nicely balance clarity, completeness, and generality. The exercises in each section serve dual purposes, some intended to improve readers' understanding of the subject and others providing additional information. Formal prerequisites for the major part of the book do not go beyond calculus, complex analysis, integration, and Fourier series and integrals. In later chapters automorphic forms become important, with much of the necessary information about them included in two survey chapters.

Book Description
Abstract: In the integral representation of the local Rankin-Selberg L-function of a pair ([pi]1, [pi]2) for GLn(F) x GLm(F) with n>̲ m over a non-archimedian field F, we know that L(s, [pi]1x [pi]2) is a finite sum [sum]I(s, W[pi]1, i, W[pi]2, i) (or [sum]I(s, W[pi]1, i, W[pi]2, i, [phi]i) for n=m) of local integrals, where (W[pi]1, i, W[pi]2, i) or (W[pi]1, i, W[pi]2, i, [phi]i) are test vectors of the pair ([pi]1, [pi]2). Our goal is to find explicit formulas for test vectors for any pair ([pi]1, [pi]2) with [pi]1 in Irr(GL(n)) and [pi]2 [a member of] Irr(GL(m)). In this dissertation, we prove that one local integral computes L(s, [pi]1x [pi]2) for any unramified [pi]2. We construct a test vector of any pair ([pi]1, [pi]2) for GL(n) x GL(1). We also show that most pairs ([pi]1x [pi]2) for GL(n) x GL(2) need at most two test vectors. As a generalization, we prove some pairs for GL(n) x GL(m) are optimal 1-regular.
