Book Description
Excerpt from Radiation From Intense Electron Beams Associated With the Cerenkov Mechanism Normally a charge or system of charges moving at constant velocity does not radiate electromagnetic energy, but if the velocity of the charge is greater than the velocity of light in a medium, radiation occurs. It is broad band; the intensity increases with frequency; and the propagation is confined to a cone, much like a shock wave in air. Equations (7) and(3) in a later section describe these results. In previous work we described theory and experiments showing that this mechanism produces microwaves from bunched electron beams, in addition to the usual optical radiation, as studied by Cerenkov and many others. Book Description
Excerpt from Cerenkov and Sub-Cerenkov Radiation From a Charged Particle Beam In previous work? We have given a form for the Cerenkov radiation from periodic electron bunches propagating in a homogeneous medium. The method involved construction of the Fourier components of the field which in turn led to the Poynting vector expressed as harmonics of the basic electron beam frequency. The important results were that the Cerenkov cone angle is shifted substantially beyond the ordinary Cerenkov angle 60, (00560 and broadened so that a significant fraction of the power radiated appears at angles other than 60. As either frequency or the path length of the beam increases, the cone angle was found to approach 60 with an increasing fraction of the total radiation being radiated at that angle. Book Description
Spurred by the development of high-current, high-energy relativistic electron beams, this books delves into the foundations of a device- and geometry-independent theoretical treatment of a large collection of interacting and radiating electron bunches. Covers a broad swath of topics, from the radiation emission of a single charged particle to collective behaviour of a high-density electron bunch, to application in modern sytems.

Book Description
Cerenkov radiation is calculated for electron beams which exceed the velocity of radiation in a non dispersive dielectric medium. The electron beam is assumed to be bunched as emitted from a travelling wave accelerator, and the emission region is assumed to be finite. Predictions include: emission at harmonics of the bunch rate; coherence of radiation at low frequencies; smearing of the emission angle for finite emission regions; and explicit evaluation of power spectrum in terms of bunch dimensions. The results apply to microwave emission from fast electrons in air or other dielectrics. (Author).

Book Description
Excerpt from Emission Threshold for Cerenkov Radiation Recently8 we have corrected an error appearing in the appendix of reference 1 and have shown that the radiated energy from a single charge bunch has the same form as the radiated power from a beam of periodic bunches. Consequently the results of this paper are applicable to both. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
