Ce mémoire présente les résultats d'une étude du comportement sous sollicitations monotones et cycliques de l'argile sensible de Beauharnois. Cette étude entre dans le cadre d'un projet de recherche qui vise à faire une caractérisation dynamique des argiles sensibles de la mer Champlain. Une campagne d'investigations géotechniques a été effectuée sur le site de Beauharnois qui a permis de faire le prélèvement de plusieurs échantillons de très haute qualité à l'aide de l'échantillonneur Laval (Qualitas, 2014) et la réalisation d'une caractérisation géotechnique détaillée du dépôt tant in situ qu'au laboratoire. Le comportement mécanique a été étudié par des essais oedométriques, des essais triaxiaux et des essais de cisaillement simple à volume constant. Les essais sous sollicitations monotones ont permis de déterminer l'état limite de l'argile ainsi que les paramètres des Mohr-Coulomb à la rupture initiale et aux grandes déformations. L'étude du comportement de l'argile sous sollicitations cycliques a permis de déterminer la résistance cyclique du sol et aussi de mieux comprendre les mécanismes de dégradation de la résistance et de rupture sous ces sollicitations. Les résultats montrent que le sol peut subir un ramollissement cyclique avec de grandes déformations lors d'une sollicitation cyclique. La comparaison des résultats de cette étude avec d'autres études sur des argiles de la mer Champlain a permis de mettre en évidence la similitude du comportement de ces argiles sensibles.
