Book Description
The Government and Copyright: The Government as Proprietor, Preserver and User of Copyright Material Under the Copyright Act 1968 focuses on the interplay between law, policy and practice in copyright law by investigating the rights of the government as the copyright owner, the preserver of copyright material and the user of other's copyright material under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). The first of two recurring themes in the book asks the question whether the needs and status of government should be different from private sector institutions, which also obtain copyright protection under the law. The second theme aims to identify the relationship between government copyright law and policy, national cultural policy and fundamental governance values. "As the first authoritative treatise on government copyright to be published in Australia, this book will be of immediate interest and relevance to Australian lawyers and policy makers, particularly in the light of ongoing efforts to ensure that the intellectual property system stimulates innovation and fosters trade and investment. Given that government copyright is recognised to some extent in most countries worldwide, this book is a valuable contribution to the international literature on this topic, which remains sparse." From the Introduction by Dr Anne Fitzgerald and Prof. Brian Fitzgerald

Book Description
An understanding of intellectual property is an essential component of management and business strategy in many industries. It can be used to generate value and create competitive advantage and goes hand-in-hand with the study of technology innovation and international business. However, the literature on intellectual property has been dominated by writers with backgrounds in legal science and economics. This book advocates an interdisciplinary view on intellectual property management for business and management students and professionals. It provides an outline of the field in terms that are tailored to management scholarship and with an emphasis on business decision making. It is intended for business school students of intellectual property management, innovation, strategic management and industry studies, as well as professionals in need of an accessible and business-minded approach to intellectual property management.

Book Description
On the back of the growing capacity of networked digital information technologies to process and visualise large amounts of information in a timely, efficient and user-driven manner, we have seen an increasing demand for better access to and re-use of public sector information. The story is not a new one. Share knowledge and together we can do great things; limit access and we reduce the potential for opportunity. The two volumes of this book seek to explain and analyse the global shift in the way we manage public sector information. In doing so they collect and present papers, reports and submissions on the topic by the leading authors and institutions from across the world. These provide people tasked with mapping out and implementing information policy with reference material and practical guidance. Volume 2 presents a selection of the key reports and submissions that have been published over the last few years. The volumes are sold separately and as a set.

Book Description
The management of intellectual property (IP) within Australian government research and development agencies has changed dramatically over recent years. Increasing expectations have been placed on utilising public sector IP to both underpin economic development and augment taxes by generating new revenues. And public sector R&D management has come under greater scrutiny to commercialise and/or corporatise their activities. In 1999-2000 we were contracted by the Institute of Public Administration (IPAA Queensland) to examine IP management issues surrounding the commercialisation of technologies in The Queensland Public Sector [1]. As part of that exercise we developed a framework to facilitate a holistic audit of IP management in government agencies. In this paper we describe this framework as it pertains to one large public sector Agriculture R&D Agency, the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (QDPI). The four overlapping domains of the framework are: IP Generation; IP Rights; IP Uptake and Corporate Support. The framework highlights some well developed IP management practices within QDPI's traditional focus of innovation (IP Generation) and IP ownership and licensing (IP Rights). However, further management practice developments are required to improve the domains of IP Uptake and Corporate IP Support.

Book Description
Government Accountability: Australian Administrative Law presents a thorough account of the administrative state and the mechanisms that exist to bring it to account for its actions. It contextualises the theory and explanation of administrative law through carefully chosen case studies and events that offer practical examples of the principles discussed and how they are applied. The third edition has been thoroughly updated to incorporate recent legal developments and includes expanded discussion of 'materiality' in the context of jurisdictional error. The examples used illustrate the operation of legal principles and reflect contemporary social and political circumstances. Written by a team of experts, and known for its clear, consistent and straightforward narrative with logical progression, Government Accountability remains a student-friendly guide to complex administrative law concepts. Government Accountability: Australian Administrative Law is accompanied by a casebook, Government Accountability Sources and Materials: Australian Administrative Law, which provides curated cases and primary legal materials with helpful commentary.
