Book Description
Continued investigations of the preparation and evaluation of refractory metal alloys of pyrolytic graphite as a function of synthetic parameters are presented. Induction furnace modifications for vapor plating to temperatures in excess of 2500 C, development of analytical techniques, development of coating procedures on complex shapes and additional oxidation data of the materials are reported. Methods of producing satisfactory coatings of various pyrolytic graphites and alloys on graphite nozzles for test firings with Arcocel 163 (6500 F, aluminized) propellant are also described. Book Description
The effect of ground proximity on the aerodynamic characteristics of aspect-ratio-1 airfoils was investigated. The investigation was made with the model moving over the water in a towing tank. The results indicated that, as the ground was approached, lift-drag ratio was increased. The profile drag remained essentially constant for each airfoil. Near ground, the addition of end plates to the airfoil resulted in a large increase in lift-drag ratio. Lift characteristics of the airfoils indicated stability of height at positive angles of attack and instability at negative angles; therefore, the operating range of angles of attack would be limited to positive values. At positive angles of attack, static longitudinal stability was increased as height above the ground was reduced.

Book Description
This publication presents additional refractory-ceramic property data to supplement those published in the first edition of the Materials Selection Handbook, Is sued in October, 1963, as RTD-TDR-63-4102. The materials covered are nonmetallic inorganic crystalline materials with melting points above 273 deg F (150 deg C), including intermetallic compounds and excluding glass, carbon, and graphite. The data are from literature published in 1961 and 1962. This technical documentary report has been reviewed and is approved.

Literature Survey on Synthesis, Properties, and Applications of Selected Boride Compounds
Author: Barry Ronald Emrich
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Borides
Languages : en
Pages : 136
Book Description
A comprehensive review of the literature was made to assist in providing background information needed for future work concerning boride materials. The materials reviewed included solid bodies of TiB2, ZrB/2, HfB2, VB2, NbB2, TaB2, CrB2, and ThB4. Information is presented on synthesis, properties, and applications of the selected boride compounds, including selected abstracts and articles. This documentary search, by showing many gaps and wide scatter where information is available, demonstrates the need for the development of authoritative scientific information on borides applicable to future technological requirements.
