Medicaid Home and Community-Based Waivers
Author: John E. Dicken
Publisher: DIANE Publishing
ISBN: 1437907598
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 54
Book Description
Deaths of individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) due to poor quality of care have been highlighted in the media. There have been concerns raised about inadequate safeguards for such individuals receiving care through state Medicaid home and community-based services waivers. CMS approves and oversees these waivers. Safeguards include the review of, and follow-up action to, critical incidents -- events that harm or have the potential to harm waiver beneficiaries. This report examines the extent to which states: (1) include, as a critical incident, deaths among individuals with DD in waiver programs; (2) have basic components in place to review such deaths; and (3) have adopted additional components to review deaths. Tables.

Long-term Care in Oregon
Author: John V. Lambert
Publisher: Nova Science Publishers
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 84
Book Description
Oregon is a recognized leader in home and community-based care and has more than 20 years of experience in moving long-term care clients from institutional settings to home and community-based settings. In 2002, 82 per cent of Oregon's Medicaid long-term care clients were served in the community. Additionally, Oregon was the only state in the nation whose spending for institutional care was less than half of the state's total Medicaid long-term care spending in 2000, with only 37.2 per cent spent on institutional care compared to the national average of approximately 70 per cent. Oregon officials recognize that with the aging population and increasing cost, they may need to rethink the design of their current system. They hope to incorporate a concept of 'bounded choice' where a person's wishes are considered within the boundaries of service capacity and fiscal constraints.
