Book Description
Excerpt from Profit-Sharing Between Capital and Labour, Six Essays By directly interesting workmen in the profits which their labour contributes to produce, a group of Continental, and especially of Parisian, firms have introduced a singularly efficacious means of obtaining enhanced industrial results, and of stilling the disastrous antagonism between employers and employed. The particular mode of remunerating labour which has brought these benefits in its train was first put into action by the house-painter Leclaire, in 1842, and is now working in a great variety of productive undertakings, and in one distributive establishment of colossal size. A French Society formed to promote the study of this system has, since 1879, published a quarterly serial describing its progress: its principle and practice have also been investigated by two public commissions appointed by the Prefect of the Seine and the Minister of the Interior, respectively, and by a committee of the Chamber of Deputies. Book Description
The historical relationship between capital and labor has evolved in the past few decades. One particularly noteworthy development is the rise of shared capitalism, a system in which workers have become partial owners of their firms and thus, in effect, both employees and stockholders. Profit sharing arrangements and gain-sharing bonuses, which tie compensation directly to a firm’s performance, also reflect this new attitude toward labor. Shared Capitalism at Work analyzes the effects of this trend on workers and firms. The contributors focus on four main areas: the fraction of firms that participate in shared capitalism programs in the United States and abroad, the factors that enable these firms to overcome classic free rider and risk problems, the effect of shared capitalism on firm performance, and the impact of shared capitalism on worker well-being. This volume provides essential studies for understanding the increasingly important role of shared capitalism in the modern workplace.

Book Description
First published in 1910, 'Profit-Sharing and the Labour Question' is a fascinating look at an alternative to traditional labor-management relations. Drawing on extensive research and real-world examples, author Thomas W. Bushill makes a compelling case for the benefits of profit-sharing, arguing that it can lead to greater productivity, higher employee satisfaction, and a more harmonious workplace.
