Book Description
One of the Top Selling Physics Books according to YBP Library Services Suitable for graduate students, experienced researchers, and experts, this book provides a state-of-the-art review of the non-relativistic theory of high-energy ion-atom collisions. Special attention is paid to four-body interactive dynamics through the most important theoretical methods available to date by critically analyzing their foundation and practical usefulness relative to virtually all the relevant experimental data. Fast ion-atom collisions are of paramount importance in many high-priority branches of science and technology, including accelerator-based physics, the search for new sources of energy, controlled thermonuclear fusion, plasma research, the earth’s environment, space research, particle transport physics, therapy of cancer patients by heavy ions, and more. These interdisciplinary fields are in need of knowledge about many cross sections and collisional rates for the analyzed fast ion-atom collisions, such as single ionization, excitation, charge exchange, and various combinations thereof. These include two-electron transitions, such as double ionization, excitation, or capture, as well as simultaneous electron transfer and ionization or excitation and the like—all of which are analyzed in depth in this book. Quantum Theory of High-Energy Ion-Atom Collisions focuses on multifaceted mechanisms of collisional phenomena with heavy ions and atoms at non-relativistic high energies.

Experimental Study of Zone Refining of the Binary System Triphenyl Antimony-benzoic Acid
Author: Marvin S. Brooks
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Antimony
Languages : en
Pages : 94
Book Description
An experimental study on the zone refining of the binary system triphenyl antimony-benzoic acid is described. The isotope Sb124, which is a strong gamma emitter, was employed as a tracer; this allowed a rapid in situ nondestructive analysis, closely spaced experimental points, and the opportunity to study distribution as a function of varying experimental conditions. With the aid of computers (IBM 7090 and IBM 7044) apparent k's were calculated and the experimental data compared with those predicted from various mathematical models. (Author).

Plurality-count Diversity Combining for Fading M-ary Transmissions
Author: John N. Pierce
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Alphabets
Languages : en
Pages : 38
Book Description
The performance of a plurality-count diversity combiner for fading M-ary transmissions is analyzed, and calculated error probabilities are presented graphically for alphabet sizes of 2, 8, and 32. The performance is shown to be within 3 dB of that of an optimum square-law combiner for moderate alphabet sizes when there is no restriction on the allowable number of diversity branches. It is shown that a worthwhile saving in transmitted power can be effected by using nonbinary alphabets with plurality-count combining for the transmission of binary data. The availability of extra information from the combiner for use with error-correction is discussed.

An Algorithm for the Deformation Method of Quadratic Programming
Author: Roger Even Bove
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Algorithms
Languages : en
Pages : 118
Book Description
The following paper represents work to date on the deformation method for quadratic programming and thus may be regarded as a sequel to Zahl, S. (1964) A Deformation Method for Quadratic Programming, Research Note AFCRL-63-132. It gives an explanation of a modified Iverson programming language and uses this to give a detailed algorithm for the Zahl Deformation Method of Quadratic Programming.
