Book Description
Excerpt from Proceedings of the 31st, 40th and 57th Annual Session of the North Carolina Baptist State Sunday School Convention and Baptist Young People's Union, 1903, 1912 and 1930 Our modern Sunday School, as it is sometimes called, is not a new idea. It is as old as the church itself. When our Saviour was upon earth, the people gathered in the church on the Sabbath day to hear the Scriptures read and explained. Perhaps the only im provement that has been. Made is in the classification. The Sunday School is not for any particular class or age. An ideal Sunday School is one in which all the people are gathered - men, women and children - and taught the Word of God. Of all people, Baptists must be firm believers in the Sunday School. A Baptist church is based upon no creed or tradition. It is not governed by laws or regulations made by man. The New Testament is its constitution and rule of order. A Baptist church is a pure democracy. All its members have an equal voice in its government. As the prosperity of a republic depends upon the intelligence of its citizens, so the prosperity of a Baptist church depends upon its members. Hence the importance of having the members trained in Bible knowledge, and this work can be done no where so well as in the Sunday School. Sunday School workers are forces of light. Go into any church or community where there is a well organized Sunday School, and you will find a working church and well-ordered homes.
