Preliminary analysis of climate variability and change in the Canadian Columbia River Basin
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
The changes in the water storage capacity of the CRB and timing of the runoff have serious consequences for the competing interests of water resources. [...] In addition to global climate change and warmer average temperatures, the CRB and the Pacific Northwest are also exposed to the variability of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and the Pacific North American oscillation that carries El Niño and La Niña influences from the tropics. [...] The importance of the Columbia Basin in Pacific North America cannot be overstated, especially for the people who live in the Basin and in the Province of British Columbia. [...] The report provides a preliminary technical analysis of historical climate trends and variability in the Canadian portion of the Columbia River Basin and an overview of projected future climate change. [...] The ensemble of projections is presented as "box and whisker plots" (e.g., Figure 3.2) that show the median value within the box, the upper 75th and lower 25th percentile of the projections as the upper and lower boundaries of the box, and the full range of the projections, or 1.5 standard deviations, whichever is less, as the upper and lower 'whisker' marks at the end of the lines above and below.

Climate Change, Impacts and Adaptation Scenarios
Author: David Leslie Spittlehouse
Publisher: British Columbia Ministry of Forests and Range Forest Scienc
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 52
Book Description
"This Technical Report is one of two foundation papers for the B.C. Ministry of Forest and Range (MoFR) Future Forest Ecosystems Initiative (FFEI). These papers will increase the awareness of the potential impact of climate change on forest and range resources in British Columbia. They will also provide information to aid in assessing the vulnerability of British Columbia's forest and range resources and their management, leading to the development of adaptation strategies for a changing climate. The FFEI was initiated by the Chief Forester with a symposium and workshop in December 2005. At the same time the MoFR Climate Change Task Team was preparing a report on how the MoFR should strategically position itself with respect to the potential impacts of climate change on the province's forest and range resources. The present report draws on the Task Team report, recommendations from the FFEI workshop, and numerous other documents including the most recent reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It provides a summary of future possible climates for British Columbia, a brief review of possible impacts on forest and range resources, and options for and challenges to adapting to climate change. Finally, there are recommendations on how the MoFR might respond to climate change. The report contains four appendices that expand on material presented in the body of the report, including information on the past as well as on future climates of British Columbia."--Document.

Author: Heather Klassen
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Climatic changes
Languages : en
Pages : 78
Book Description
This research is directed toward refining and quantifying a conceptual model of ecosystem function across spatial scales, establishing hypotheses regarding ecosystem change with projected climate shift, and identifying effective field indicators of climate change and its impacts on structure, species composition, and function in dry south coast forests. This document includes an introduction, study design and field methodology, data development and analysis, preliminary results, and application of data to current and future studies.--Includes text from document.
