Pages : 60
Book Description
She runs the night—with the moon over her shoulder and a small pistol hidden in her shorts—Amy Tamme jogs the dark city streets. Her guilt paces her steps as revenge fuels the beat of her raging heart. Oh, how she misses him—her beloved husband—this man who loved her unto dying—as he saved her from the man that attacked her as she was jogging in the predawn hours those many months ago. And so now she hunts for her husband’s murderer, using her body as bait as she runs a path through the darkest haunts of the city, with the full moon over her back, shining out its call—a false siren of light—for the revenge of her lost soulmate. But then…one night Amy happens upon a newly opened jazz bar, with great live music and the tastiest craft beers, and she makes a new friend. And somehow this wonderful woman is like unto a savior for the rage that is crashing through her exhausted mind, and before Amy can muster the courage to reach out to her, this new friend comes to her instead, and Amy must decide if revenge is now her eternal and dark way going forward with her life, or if friendship and hope is her newly lit pathway. But then she tries to have both, and…

Pages : 84
Book Description
The most beautiful actress in the world has been dropped and crushed. At the age of thirteen, she fell in love with a starring young actor, won an academy award, and was acclaimed worldwide. She was also raped by the director of that same Oscar winning movie and then never saw her first crush again. Today, as a young woman, she is devastated, she is sad, and she is lonely. She is also a virgin. Every night she stands at the end of her dock looking up to the stars, hoping for, and dreaming of, the chance to start her life again. But the nightmare that lies anchored in her past weighs heavy on her heart, so she sighs and turns for the walk back to her lonely plantation home. Then one night there appears on the horizon a new light in the sky, a comet. And it has purpose—a cosmic mission—and this tragic and beautiful young lady is forced to make a life-changing decision. And after years away from the camera, she dares to take on another movie role only to somehow find herself confronted once again with the actor that she's always loved and the director that all but destroyed her.

Various Thoughts on the Occasion of a Comet
Author: Pierre Bayle
Publisher: State University of New York Press
ISBN: 0791492737
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 388
Book Description
"I tremble when I recall the terrible appearance [the comet] had on Saturday evening in the clear sky, when it was observed by everybody with inexpressible astonishment. It seemed as though the heavens were burning, or as if the very air was on fire...[F]rom this little star stretched out such a wonderfully long tail that even an intellectual man was overcome with trembling; one's hair stood on end as this uncommon, terrible, and indescribable tail came into view...O wonderful almighty God! The heavens show thy might and the earth thy handiwork!" — Eyewitness account of a comet which appeared over Europe on December 24, 1680 The appearance of this comet caused so many panicked inquiries to be made of Pierre Bayle, one of the Enlightenment's greatest thinkers, that he decided to formally respond to them, hence the present work, which first appeared in 1682. The book's principle task was to undermine the influence of "superstition" in political life, and it was here that Bayle made the notorious suggestion, unique in the history of political thought until then, that a decent society of atheists is possible in principle. There is no other English translation of this book in print—the only other version was printed in 1708. This translation is based on a recently revised critical edition of the complete French text and includes a substantial interpretive essay that both elucidates the arguments of the work and indicates the importance of Bayle in the history of the modern Enlightenment.
