Book Description
Building Better Health Care Leadership for Canada explains the development and implementation of the Executive Training in Research Application (EXTRA) program. Managed and funded by the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation in partnership with the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Nursing Association, and the Canadian College of Health Care executives, EXTRA is a two-year national fellowship program that uses the principles of adult learning theory as well as practical projects to educate senior health care leaders in making more consistent use of research evidence in their management roles. Fellows apply the theory learned in residency sessions and educational activities to projects within their home organizations. The authors identify the imperative for better use of evidence, outline the core elements of the curriculum, and capture the real-world experience of regional leaders and fellows involved in making specific changes informed by research-based evidence within their organization. Contributors include Jean-Louis Denis (École nationale d'administration publique), Terrence Sullivan (Cancer Care Ontario), Owen Adams (Canadian Medical Association), Malcolm Anderson (Queen's University), Lynda Atack, Robert Bell (University Health Network), Sam G Campbell (Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre), Sylvie Cantin (Régie régionale de la santé et des services sociaux de la Montérégie), Ward Flemons (Calgary Health Region), Dorothy Forbes, J. Sonja Glass (Grey Bruce Health Services), Paula Goering (Centre for Addiction & Mental Health, Toronto), Karen Golden-Biddle (Boston University School of Management), Jeffrey S. Lavis (McMaster University), Jonathan Lomas (Canadian Health Services Research Foundation), Margo Orchard (Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Ontario), Raynald Pineault (University of Montreal), Brian D. Book Description
In the first part of this book, distinguished diplomats and eminent academics have contributed papers on the concept of international organization, on international conference diplomacy and on negotiating strategies, while experts have provided practical advice on conference management and tips on getting ideas and positions heard and understood in this particular setting. A second part includes notices on the United Nations organizations headquartered in Geneva, with special emphasis on what may be called their institutional culture', and a third part, including an invaluable presentation by the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, is devoted to the question of privileges and immunities. There are many studies, academic or otherwise, on the United Nations organizations but hardly any provide this kind of practical guidance for diplomats and national officials first confronted with the Geneva multilateral setting. The book is primarily intended for them, but is also of interest for those concerned with international relations.

Book Description
Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century. Anthropogenic activities, such as fossil fuel consumption and other activities focused on enhancing economic growth, have been identified as the main drivers of changes in the environment that defy planetary boundaries. The transgression of planetary boundaries has profound implications for practically all biophysical and human systems and their impact could also be related to the exacerbation of existing problems such as land tenure insecurity, poverty and inequality, marginalization of poorer populations, climate induced migration, and resource wars or conflicts. From a global South perspective, research on the multifaceted nature of climate change is thus necessary and appropriate, including the analysis of socioeconomic, political and cultural aspects. This book is an outcome of the Comparative Research Workshop on Inequality and Climate Change: Perspectives from the South of the South-South Collaborative Programme of CLACSO-CODESRIA-IDEAS. It gathers a diversity of case studies from the South with ample biophysical differences and particular social and cultural realities. As such, it is a fresh contribution offering a vantage point from which to examine some of the current perspectives on inequality and climate change.

Book Description
This report provides data on development aid for Basic Social Services (BSS) over the past decade (1995-2004). It opens with an analysis of trends in aid for basic social services that shows that it has more than doubled during the time period covered and now accounts for about 20% of total aid. The book then provides listings, on a receiving country-by-country basis, of specific commitments made during that period. The listings include information on the donor country, the donor agency, the type of aid, the amount of aid in US dollars, the project description, and information on whether the project has a gender equality or participatory development/good governance aspect.
