Like most people in the world, 2020 finds me in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. While reading the first five verses in Joel 1, Wanda began to write. Nothing like This Has Ever Happened Before God gave a message to the prophet to say "listen," everyone See what's happening all around while you are still having fun It came upon the land quickly with a mighty and destructive force Tell your children, everyone, everywhere has been thrown off course Not in our time or your parent's time have we ever seen this before We ask when will it end, how long can it go on each day more and more Everyone, wake up including those who partied too hard and went to sleep Cry out and mourn, like it or not, you're on the wagon, now it is time to weep The virus will attack you no matter who you are, red, brown, black, or white Take heed and realize the seriousness of the situation, we can't win this fight All are closed, restaurants, gyms, malls, nail salons, barber shops, no relief And with virtual doctor's appointments, we pray nothing happens to our teeth We must seek to sense God's purpose for what is happening in the world today Only the Holy Spirit can help us to know what we should do before it all slips away

Victorian Poets and the Changing Bible charts the impact of post-Enlightenment biblical criticism on English literary culture. The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries saw a widespread reevaluation of biblical inspiration, in which the Bible’s poetic nature came to be seen as an integral part of its religious significance. Reading Old English Biblical Poetry considers the Junius 11 manuscript, the only surviving illustrated book of Old English poetry, in terms of its earliest readers and their multiple strategies of reading and making meaning. Junius 11 begins with the creation story and ends with the final vanquishing of Satan by Jesus. The manuscript is both a continuous whole and a collection with discontinuities and functionally independent pieces. The chapters of Reading Old English Biblical Poetry propose multiple models for reader engagement with the texts in this manuscript, including selective and sequential reading, reading in juxtaposition, and reading in contexts within and outside of the pages of Junius 11. The study is framed by particular attention to the materiality of the manuscript and how that might have informed its early reception, and it broadens considerations of reading beyond those of the manuscript's compiler and possible patron. As a book, Junius 11 reflects a rich and varied culture of reading that existed in and beyond houses of God in England in the tenth and eleventh centuries, and it points to readers who had enough experience to select and find wisdom, narrative pleasure, and a diversity of other things within this or any book's contents.
