The first part shows how Maulana Muhammad Ali made accessible to the West for the first time an English translation of the Quran by a Muslim in 1917. Then it traces the connection of four later Muslim translations (those by Marmaduke Pickthall, Abdullah Yusuf Ali, ‘Shakir’, and Muhammad Asad) with Maulana Muhammad Ali. The second part deals with the establishment of the Woking Muslim Mission by Khwaja Kamal-ud-Din in 1913, which became the national centre of Islamic activity in Britain and is the most important part of the Muslim heritage of Britain.
