Book Description
The fundamental photophysical properties of iridium(III) materials make this class of materials the pre-eminent transition metal complex for use in optoelectronic applications. Iridium(III) in Optoelectronic and Photonics Applications represents the definitive account of photoactive iridium complexes and their use across a wide variety of applications. This two-volume set begins with an overview of the synthesis of these complexes and discusses their photophysical properties. The text highlights not only mononuclear complexes but also the properties of multinuclear and polymeric iridium-based materials and the assembly of iridium complexes into larger supramolecular architectures such as MOFs and soft materials. Chapters devoted to the use of these iridium-based materials in diverse optoelectronic applications follow, including: electroluminescent devices such as organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and light-emitting electrochemical cells (LEECs); electrochemiluminescence (ECL); bioimaging; sensing; light harvesting in the context of solar cell applications; in photoredox catalysis and as components for solar fuels. Although primarily targeting a chemistry audience, the wide applicability of these compounds transcends traditional disciplines, making this text also of use to physicists, materials scientists or biologists who have interests in these areas.

Book Description
Conducting metallopolymers have been investigated for a variety of applications due to their ability to take advantage of both the mechanical processability of the polymer material, as well as the optical and electronic properties of the metal. Our project goal is to design, synthesize and characterize novel iridium(III)-containing conducting metallopolymers for use as the active layer in polymer light-emitting diodes. We have utilized thiophene functionalized ligands that can be readily electropolymerized into conducting polymer thin films and can be easily incorporated into a device structure. Iridium(III) was chosen as the metal center due to its promising photophysical properties, as similar complexes have demonstrated high luminescent quantum yields and short phosphorescent lifetimes. The coordination environment around the metal can be altered synthetically to tune the emission wavelength across the visible spectrum. The synthetic control over the polymer backbone, as well as the iridium(III) ligand environment, allowed us to independently vary each component, which has provided a variety of materials. The materials are characterized through 1H and 13C NMR, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, electrochemistry, X-Ray diffraction and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The photophysical properties of the materials are studied through UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy, UV-Vis-NIR spectroelectrochemistry and steady-state/ time-resolved emission spectroscopy.

Book Description
There is great interest in metallosupramolecular materials because of their use in magnetic, photonic and electronic materials. Functional Metallosupramolecular Materials focuses on the applications of these materials covering the chemistry underlying the synthesis of a variety of ligands to coordinate various metal ions and the generation of 2D and 3D materials based on these constructs. The book starts by looking at different metallosupramolecular systems including naturally occurring functional metallosupramolecular materials; DNA-based metallosupramolecular materials; metallopolymers; metallogels as well as functional materials based on MOFs. Subsequent chapters then systematically cover the different applications such as molecular computation, spin-crossover, light harvesting and as photocatalysts for the production of solar fuels. The book provides an overview of functional metallosupramolecular materials that will be of interest to graduate students, academics and industrial chemists interested in supramolecular chemistry, materials science and the materials applications.

Book Description
Solution-Processed Organic Light-Emitting Devices provides a comprehensive reference on the principles and advances in materials design, device structures, and processing technologies of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Most importantly, the book analyses the dynamics of thin-film growth from solutions such as solvent orthogonalization, coffee-ring effects, and interfacial adhesion. Exciton generation and utilization, host–guest energy transfer, and interfacial interaction in the solution-processed films are considered with the material and device design to maximize the electroluminescent performance of OLEDs.The book reviews the materials, devices, and technologies dedicated to solution-processed thin-film devices, which are not only applicable to OLEDs but may be adapted to other emerging semiconducting devices due to the similarity in methods (for instance, quantum-dot LEDs and solar cells, and perovskite-based LEDs/photovoltaics/detectors).This book is suitable for researchers in academia and industry working in the materials science and engineering, chemistry, and physics disciplines. - Discusses the most relevant and emerging solution-processable materials for OLED applications - Reviews device engineering to address defects, charge transport, and exciton generation in fabricated solution-processable thin films - Provides the methods to grow multilayered thin films from solutions with organic semiconductors, with particular attention to new technologies to overcome interfacial mixing effects

Book Description
A major global issue that the world is facing today is the upcoming depletion of fossil fuels and the energy crisis. In 1998, the global annual energy consumption was 12. 7 TW; of which 80% was generated from fossil fuels. This also translates into huge annual emissions of CO that leads to massive environmental problems, 2 particularly the global warming, which could be disastrous. Future global annual energy needs are also estimated to rise dramatically. A major challenge confronting the world is to ?nd an additional 14–20 TW by 2050 when our energy reserves based on fossil fuels are vanishing. The massive demand for energy would require materials and/or processes that would help to provide new sources of clean ren- able energy or to develop processes that would harvest energy or to better utilize energy in an ef?cient manner. The present monograph, WOLEDs and Organic Photovoltaics – Recent Advances and Applications, focuses on a very important and timely subject of topical interest that deals with the more ef?cient use of energy through white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) for solid-state lighting and the development of clean sources of renewable energy through the harvesting of light energy for conversion into electrical energy in organic photovoltaics. While LED solid-state lighting and photovoltaics have been dominated by inorganic semiconductor materials and silicon-based solar cells, there have been growing interests in the development of WOLEDs and organic photovoltaics.
