Les personnes atteintes d’autisme et de tout autre trouble envahissant du développement (TED), présentent d’importantes difficultés dans l’interaction sociale. Dès la naissance, pourtant, le tout petit enfant est prédisposé à interagir avec autrui. Les bases de la communication sociale s’installent précocement, notamment par le biais du regard et de la perception des émotions. Au travers de diverses études, il est apparu que le développement émotionnel de l’enfant TED serait différent de celui des autres enfants : mais à quels niveaux ? Ce déficit de l’interaction sociale semble provenir de dysfonctionnements dans le processus émotionnel et social de l’enfant TED. Mais quels sont-ils exactement ? Est-il possible d’y remédier, de les compenser ? Autant de questions qui nous ont amené, lors de la première partie, à nous intéresser aux émotions. A l’heure où nous entendons, sans cesse , parler de gestion des émotions, de quotient émotionnel, d’intelligence émotionnelle, il nous paraît utile d’essayer de savoir ce que sont les émotions ? Quel rôle jouent-elles dans notre quotidien, quelles sont leurs fonctions ? Puis, en abordant le développement émotionnel et social de l’enfant, nous souhaitions comprendre les étapes lui permettant de devenir un être communicant. Dans une troisième partie, nous décrivons le processus émotionnel de l’enfant TED, en nous appuyant surtout sur des compte-rendus d’observations parentales et de visionnage de vidéos familiales, tant les données sont peu fournies sur ce point. Ainsi, nous remarquons les absences, les manques, les troubles et les déficits dont souffrent ces enfants au niveau émotionnel et social. En tant qu’orthophoniste, est-il possible de travailler dans ce domaine avec ces enfants ? La partie pratique tente de répondre à cette question en rendant compte d’une expérimentation : la mise en place et le suivi d’un atelier travaillant les émotions avec des enfants atteints de TED.

Since the 1970s researchers in the communicative development of infants and small children had rejected traditional models and began to explore the complex, dynamic properties of communicative exchanges. Communication development in the early years of life undergoes universal processes of change and variations linked to the characteristics and qualities of different social contexts.
