Book Description
PENTECOSTAL PIONEERS -Remembered- Here is a story long untold and mostly forgotten, of faith, power and glory. This book commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the Pentecostal Movement in Great Britain & Ireland, 1907-2007. Herein is the story of the Men, the Movement, the Message and the Miracles that became known as the Pentecostal Movement. These testimonies are timeless, powerful and stirring but sadly most of these pioneers have long disappeared from the sight and remembrance of the church. This is a very simple attempt to stir up the mind of the church to remember these men and women who so impacted families, cities and nations by a life of consecrated prayer, crowned and sealed with Holy Ghost power. Amongst them you will find pastors, teachers, evangelists, prophets and apostles. Although all these pioneers were born in Britain & Ireland yet their ministries deeply affected the world. Their influence and power was amazingly greater than their birth, upbringing, number, education or financial resources. These testimonies will deeply inspire another generation to go and do likewise. Keith Malcomson has worked with School of Christ International since 2001 ministering in Ireland, Britain and Europe, seeking to raise up a voice once again to call this Prodigal Continent back to God. He runs and directs European Schools in Ireland. SOC is presently active in over 130 nations of the world. He also travels widely preaching the Word of God and Jesus Christ His Son, with a burden for a real Heaven Sent Revival which he has carried since a child. At his side is his South African wife Candace, who is his constant companion, encourager and helpmate in this work that the Lord has called them to. His website can be found at www.pentecostalpioneers.org

W.F.P. Burton (1886-1971): A Pentecostal Pioneer's Missional Vision for Congo
Author: David Neil Emmett
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004440739
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 354
Book Description
Emmett contributes to missional pentecostal historiography through bringing a pre-eminent figure in early British Pentecostalism into the limelight. He shows how Pentecostalism in Belgian Congo was pioneered by W.F.P. Burton alongside local agency. Central to Burton’s contradictory and complex personality was a passionate desire to see the emancipation of humankind from the spiritual powers of darkness believing only Spirit-empowered local agency would enduringly prove effective. Burton’s faith believed for Spirit intervention in church communities converting lives, bringing physical healing and transforming regions. In the maelstrom following Congolese Independence, Burton’s belief in his own brand of indigenisation made him an outlier even among Pentecostals. Burton’s pentecostal faith engendered an idealism which frustratingly conflicted with those not sharing it in the way he pursued it. This book thus serves Pentecostals and historians by clarifying Burton’s ideals and revealing the reasons for his frustrations.

The Pentecostal Gender Paradox
Author: Joseph Lee Dutko
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 0567713679
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 313
Book Description
The distinct subjects of eschatology and gender equality have seen an explosion of interest in recent decades, particularly within Pentecostal scholarship. Pentecostalism is regarded ideally as both an eschatological and egalitarian movement. However, many Pentecostals have lamented the inconsistency between the early egalitarian impulse of the movement and its current restrictive practices. This situation has been described as the so-called Pentecostal gender paradox, referring to the conflicting freedoms and limitations experienced by Pentecostal women. Pentecostals have also recognized the waning eschatological fervor within the movement and its shifting eschatological convictions, leading to calls to rediscover the eschatological heart of the movement. Despite the renewed interest in both eschatology and women's equality, little research has been done to put these two areas into conversation with each other: eschatological convictions are often absent in the debate on gender roles in the church. For Pentecostals, eschatology has often been about urgency in saving souls rather than attending to social issues, but could Pentecostal eschatology be the key to (re)discovering greater equality for women in the church? Is the waning of both eschatology and women's equality within Pentecostalism potentially interrelated? For over one hundred years the role of women in Pentecostalism has been debated without a firm consensus. By examining gender solely through an eschatological lens in history, Scripture, and praxis, this work provides a valuable and creative contribution to one of the most important theological and global issues of our time, women's (in)equality. This book is also one of the first comprehensive studies to approach a single social issue solely through an eschatological lens and to provide attention to developing a thorough and methodologically connected eschatological praxis. By uncovering the unified eschatological-egalitarian narrative thread within both the Pentecostal and biblical story, this work suggests that the present end of women's inequality begins with fidelity to the future eschaton of gender equality.

20 Pentecostal Pioneers in Nigeria
Author: Israel O. Olofinjana
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1456866826
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 217
Book Description
Ever so often a book comes along that I feel should have been written years ago, and this book is one of them. As a Christian who found faith in Nigeria in the 80s, I was intrigued by stories about 'God Generals", those men and women that led 20th century revivals across the world (most of them in the West). Now I have in my hands, a book that shares some of the stories of some of my fellow countrymen who shaped the faith landscape in Nigeria. I am really impressed with the diversity of the leaders identified and the depth of the research undertaken. This book, in my view, should be a must read for anyone interested in origins of Pentecostalism in Nigeria. Keno Ogbo, Co-editor, The Black Church in the 21st Century "The Lord joined us to the ministry of Benson Idahosa for 20 years and we saw firsthand the reality and power of the gospel in Africa that has touched the world. The Lord's sovereign work in the continent is going to impact the globe for generations to come. Thank God for the African church of Jesus Christ. Millions of strong and faithful believers are coming forth at this critical time as God builds His church." Dr Kent & Ruth Hodge, President of Christian Faith Institute, Jos, Nigeria. Christianity has been recognised to be a growing religion in Sub Sahara Africa. The expression of Christianity that is expanding in Africa is Pentecostalism. One reason for this growth is the renewal factor which has engulfed the whole continent. Nigeria is one of the countries that has and is still experiencing revival that is contributing to local and global Christianity. What is the origin of Pentecostalism in Nigeria? What contributions did the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa make to the Pentecostal scene in Africa? Why is RCCG one of the fastest growing Churches in the World? This book considers the history of Pentecostalism in Nigeria by looking at the pioneering efforts of men and women who laid the foundation of the Movement.

Transforming Renewal
Author: Andy Lord
Publisher: Lutterworth Press
ISBN: 0718844289
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 203
Book Description
Pentecostal and charismatic renewal movements have seen great growth over the last century and have engaged with many Christian traditions. Yet there are signs that all is not well, and there is a need to develop theologies of renewal that engage with practice and across the traditions if the movements are to continue to grow. In particular, this book seeks an ecumenical engagement between David Watson and Thomas Merton, leaders in the charismatic and monastic renewal movements. The aim is to reflect on the theological roots of these renewal movements through a study of particular people who lived them in practice and sought to help others understand how the triune God was at work. This is done against the wider background of contemporary renewalist theology to develop constructive proposals for renewal theology in the future. Receptive ecumenism provides the method for bringing the different voices into conversation in ways that also point forward in approaches to ecumenical dialogue. It is thus a studyrelevant to those seeking new ways in theology, those involved in renewal and ecumenical movements, students of Thomas Merton, and all who seek to better understand the Christian renewal movements that have swept the world.

The Genuine Flow
Author: Mel C. Montgomery
Publisher: Xulon Press
ISBN: 1609578538
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 248
Book Description
There is a genuine flow of the Holy Spirit! . . . and many worthless imitations. Mel Montgomery learned about spiritual gifts and prophetic ministry from the Goodwins, who were mentors to Kenneth Hagin, John Osteen, Billye Brim, Pat Harrison, and many others. Eventually, Brother Mel was entrusted with rare early Pentecostal recordings, most of which had never before been copied or released to the public. These recordings were by: Howard Carter, Stanley Frodsham, F.F. Bosworth, and other faith giants of yesteryear. Mel discovered that the deep truths of the Holy Spirit, as taught by the Goodwins and the early Pentecostal giants, had been largely obscured in our day. In The Genuine Flow, Mel presents the teachings of the early faith giants, combined with his own experiences in ministry. You will learn how the faith giants flowed in the Spirit, and how you can too. Brother Mel ministers in local churches and in ministers meetings. Mel's website, www.brothermel.com, has been accessed over 2 million times by people downloading his teachings and recordings in more than 150 countries. His podcast, "Voices of the Faith Giants," is heard around the world.
