A motion was made by Mr. M'Kean, seconded by Mr. Redick, to insert the following as the ninth section of the said first article, viz. No person shall be capable of being chosen a enator who is not seized, in fee simple, of five hundred acres of land within this com-monwealth, or possessed of real and personal estate to the value of five hundred 'pUlU11.lS-Which was determined in the negative. The ninth section of the first article of the said plan of government being under consideration, _it was moved by Mr. Sitgreaves, seconded by Mr; Lewis, to amend the said section so as to read as follows, viz Immediately after the senators shall be assembled in consequence. of the first election subsequent to the first enumeration hereinbefore mentioned, they shall be divided, ' by lot, as equally as may be, 'into four classes. The seats of the senators of the first class shall be vacated at the expiration of the first year; of the second class, at the expiration of the second year; of the third class, at the expirationpf the third year; and of the fourth class, at the expiration of the fourth year; 50 that one-fourth may be chosen every year.
