Book Description
The Bible’s opening chapter includes these words: “So God created humans in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” We are created beings, with a unique status in creation. Nothing is more fundamental to Christian faith. Yet biologists present extensive data and provide a picture of how our species came to be, but there is no Creator in the intricate details of the painting they provide. If the scientific evidence for the evolution picture is reasonable—and, in general, it is—and if humans were indeed created from a common ancestor of the great apes, then what can be said about the Artist who Christians believe was at work? Vague answers are not satisfactory anymore—not in this scientific age. Recent mainstream data from paleoanthropology and genetics suggest that the basis of our species’ success was not that they were superior fighters. Rather, the reason our ancestors thrived was likely their ability to function cooperatively in groups—to respect each other and to get along. This reframes the question about the nature of the hovering Spirit’s activity in bringing our species into being. And that is the subject of this book.

Book Description
We spend a great deal of time in life wondering what is going on in various situations. Sometimes we are misled by people who have an agenda, other times by people who have the wrong impression, and other times by situations involving subtle realities that intertwine in confusing ways. Having gotten two degrees in engineering and applied them in industry as an analyst, the author long ago came to regard the provable truth to be something breathtakingly beautiful. In this regard, the author has also been left with the impression that there are many good, intelligent people wandering around with marching orders, saying, "Believe this or that!" but the results of this belief seem incongruous with reality. And so it seemed that there was a need for a well-versed reference source to better explain reality. The author didn't realize what service was being provided by his poetry until long after the first poem had been written. The fact that the title referred to a verse and that poetry contains verses serves as a pun in the title. Not all poems in this work refer to the same subjects. Many things we encounter in life can be confusing, including love, patriotism, politics, the feminine mystique, modern business, spin doctors (whom the author is none too fond of), advertisers, and pets, to name a few. It will not be claimed that the interpretations of what is happening are infallible. But the author did get more than a few happy a has at the end of various poems and hopes that the reader will respond with similar pleasure.

Book Description
Taking the novel position of dealing with law, classical rhetoric and feminism concurrently, this book considers the effects of beliefs about language on those who attempt to theorize about and use law to accomplish practical and political purposes. The author employs Aristotle's terminology to analyze economic and literary schools of thought in the US legal academy, noting the implicit language theory underlying claims by major thinkers in each school about the nature of law and its relationship to justice. The underlying assumption is that, as law can only work through language, beliefs about its relationship to justice are determined by assumptions about the nature of language. In addition, the author provides an alternative, feminist rhetoric that, being focused on the production of texts rather than their interpretation, offers a practical ethic of intervention.

Book Description
ln this volume Tom Gunning examines the films of Fritz Lang not only as a stylistically coherent body of work, but as an attempt to portray the modern world through cinema. The world of modernity in which systems replace individuals is conveyed by Lang's mastery of cinematic set design, composition and editing. Lang presents not only a decades-long vision of cinematic narrative which can be compared to that of Alfred Hitchcock or Jean Renoir, but a view of modernity that relates strongly to the ideas of Adorno, Brecht, Benjamin and Kracauer. From the sweeping allegorical films of the 20s to the chilly and abstract thrillers of the 50s, Lang's films, Gunning claims, are 'among the most precious records of the twentieth century'. The Films of Fritz Lang immeasurably enriches our understanding of a great artist and, in so doing, reimagines what a film arlist is: an author who fades away even in being recognised and interpreted, an enigmatic figure at the junction of aesthetics, history, biography and theory.
