Book Description
This book, rooted in the disciplines of theology and peace studies, reflects with and on war-affected communities in Colombia about transitioning from violence to peace. It argues that much that is significant for peace- building in situations of war escapes the notice of governments, human rights organizations, and academics because it is accomplished through a kind of agency they do not recognize. This book names that agency as constructive agency under duress and demonstrates its significance for peacebuilding by reflecting on a form that the author has seen operating in Colombia over nearly two decades.

Book Description
Demonstrating the centrality of diplomacy in the Vietnam War, Pierre Asselin traces the secret negotiations that led up to the Paris Agreement of 1973, which ended America's involvement but failed to bring peace in Vietnam. Because the two sides signed the agreement under duress, he argues, the peace it promised was doomed to unravel. By January of 1973, the continuing military stalemate and mounting difficulties on the domestic front forced both Washington and Hanoi to conclude that signing a vague and largely unworkable peace agreement was the most expedient way to achieve their most pressing objectives. For Washington, those objectives included the release of American prisoners, military withdrawal without formal capitulation, and preservation of American credibility in the Cold War. Hanoi, on the other hand, sought to secure the removal of American forces, protect the socialist revolution in the North, and improve the prospects for reunification with the South. Using newly available archival sources from Vietnam, the United States, and Canada, Asselin reconstructs the secret negotiations, highlighting the creative roles of Hanoi, the National Liberation Front, and Saigon in constructing the final settlement.

Book Description
Spoken word is one of the most popular styles of poetry in North America. While its prevalence is often attributed to the form’s strong ties to oral culture, Recalling Recitation in the Americas reveals how poetry memorization and recitation curricula, shaped by British Imperial policy, influenced contemporary performance practices. During the early twentieth century, educators frequently used the recitation of canonical poems to instill "proper" speech and behaviour in classrooms in Canada, the Caribbean, and the United States. Janet Neigh critically analyses three celebrated performance poets - E. Pauline Johnson-Tekahionwake (1861-1913), Langston Hughes (1902-1967), and Louise Bennett (1919-2006) - who refashioned recitation to cultivate linguistic diversity and to resist its disciplinary force. Through an examination of the dialogues among their poetic projects, Neigh illuminates how their complicated legacies as national icons obscure their similar approaches to resisting Anglicization. Recalling Recitation in the Americas focuses on the unexplored relationship between education history and literary form and establishes the far-reaching effects of poetry memorization and recitation on the development of modern performance poetry in North America.

Book Description
Lord, please continue to have mercy on humanity. You have made provisions for everything we need in this world and the world to come. Yet many people although desire good life, are suffering, some are confused, others are desperate, families are broken down, our nation is struggling to cope, many people are lost in spiritual matters and sin. In this book, the authors main argument is that God, in his unfailing love for humanity, has already provided what people are frantically seeking in life. What people need to do is to turn to the Holy Scriptures for guidance. This book can be of such help. You see, when life is calm, our foundations dont seem to matter. But when crisis come, our foundations are tested. In this book, the author also argues that it is a waste of time and effort for people to build their lives on a faulty foundation. Jesus describes Gods principles as a solid foundation for people to build their lives on. We are strangers in this world; therefore we need someone who knows the journey of life to guide us. God is the creator of this world, and He alone knows the in and out of this world. His principles provide guidance for a perfect life. The attempts by some groups of people to suppress the knowledge of God in the society have not been very helpful in many ways, although they could not succeed. For example, these people could not provide the society with any viable alternative guiding principles on how people should live their lives. This has led many people to turn to wrong sources for guidance, sometimes with very little success or no success at all leading to a life of despair, hopelessness, and failure. Because of this suppression of Gods word, there seems to be famine in our society, famine of truth, famine of the word of God. There is also darkness in our society, many people are confused and some do not know what to do with their lives. But the word of God is light, its gives understanding, it gives hope, it provides guidance on spiritual matters, the salvation of the human soul, and solutions to all our problems. Sometimes, life is easier and beautiful if you know what to do in any situation you find yourself. Many people desire a good family life, peace, joy, hope, self discipline, strength, encouragement, a connection with a higher being that transcends human existence and meaning to life in their spiritual quest. As you read this book, know that I am praying for you for all these blessings in Jesus name, amen. Anthony Bright Atwam. According to scripture, the church is the salt and the light of this world. But the church seems to have locked the resources God has given her to be given to the world in the room and has put the keys in her pocket while the world is suffering. One of the things the church needs to do is to start to unpack and release the resources God has given her to meet the needs of postmodern spiritual quest. Anthony Bright Atwam.
