Book Description
Excerpt from Pathology, General and Special, for Students of Medicine I have' therefore endeavoured, in this book, to detail the essentials of general and special pathology, such as seem to me to be required by the majority of medical students. No novelty is claimed in the arrangement of subjects or presentation of the matter. The question of arrangement of subjects is a difficult one, but since every pathological process is intimately associated with other processes, it has not appeared to me to be one of particular importance. Book Description
Excerpt from Text-Book of General and Special Pathology: For Students and Practitioners Owing to lack of space, it was necessary to give only the essentials and to present views more or less generally accepted in as concise a form as possible; hence, many topics could be only very briefly discussed. For the same reason references to authors and literature have been omitted, except when of historic interest or to support statements in the text which may be at variance with prevailing conceptions. Book Description
Excerpt from A d104-Book of Pathology for Students of Medicine IT will at first glance be thought that two large publications upon the same subject by the same author within a relatively brief space of time must be alike. We venture to think that the reader will not find in this work any lengthy excerpt from The Principles of Pathology, but on the contrary will find considerable evidence of modification. Its birth, however, in a certain sense may be laid at the door of the previous work, to be presently explained. Book Description
Excerpt from A Manual of General Pathology: For the Use of Students and Practitioners of Medicine After perusing the fifth edition of Wagner's Pathology in 1872 I was strongly impressed with the idea that it was well worthy of reproduction in this country. N 0 book in the English language gives such a thorough résumé of the elements of medicine, and in none is the matter so arranged as to be available for both the student and the practitioner. This, the sixth German edition, is much improved, many references to publications in 1872 having been inserted; in many chapters the work is fully up to date. This elaboration is perhaps most evident in the sections on the theories of fever; where knowledge which could only be obtained by laborious work in a large city library is condensed within the compass of a few pages. I have permitted myself to make very few changes from the original; two or three pages from the sections on soil and climate, and some short paragraphs in the chapter on fever, have been omitted. A few foot-notes and bibliographical references (chiefly American), and an index of authors, have been added. My friend Dr. Van Duyn has translated at least two-thirds of the book. The proofreading and arrangement of the work have fallen to my share. In our translation we have encountered some difficulties, and those who have done the same kind of work will know how to make allowance for a num ber of awkward sentences in the English. We have endeavored to be literal and at the same time clear; and elegance of style has not been aimed at. Book Description
Excerpt from A Manual of General Pathology: Students and Practitioners Pathology is the science which treats of changes and pro cesses in disease. It falls into at least two natural divisions: (1) that which deals with structure (morbid Anatomy and Histology); (2) that which deals with function (morbid Physi ology, or General Pathology). For the body in disease must be studied from both of these aspects, just as the body in health. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
