Book Description
The focus of this report is the 25,431 U.S. citizen federal offenders released from prison or placed on probation in calendar year 2005. Recidivism refers to a person's relapse into criminal behavior, often after the person receives sanctions or undergoes interventions for a previous crime. Recidivism is typically measured by criminal acts that resulted in the re-arrest, re-conviction, and/or re-incarceration of the offender over a specified period of time. Recent developments, particularly public attention to the size of the federal prison population and the cost of incarceration have refocused the Commission's interest on the recidivism of federal offenders. This report takes into account chapters four and two of the Guidelines Manual (ISBN: 9780160934896) in establishing the Commission's methods for evaluation. Scoring points for evaluation of the study group, and criminal history category identification. The Appendix comprised of tables and figures section offers the Study group's offender race, median age, re-conviction rates, re-incarceration rates, offenses categories, and more. Book Description
In Criminal Punishment and Restorative Justice author David J. Cornwell draws on bedrock issues in contemporary criminology and penology in order to contrast punitive and restorative responses to crime. He then looks at the forces that serve to constrain more emphatic adoption of restorative methods and - against a backdrop of increasing worldwide reliance on custody, 'touch solutions' and punitive thinking - examines the claims of restorative justice to mainstream adoption by governments. The book also provides an international perspective on the needs of victims and offenders alike and assesses how the worldwide trend towards punitive methods can be reversed by challenging offenders to take responsibility for their offences and to make practical reparation for the harm that they have caused. Such developments, the author argues, would serve to make 'corrections' more effective, civilised, humane, pragmatic, 'non-fanciful' and less driven by the often ill-considered politics of the moment.

Book Description
In this compilation, the authors open by reviewing some concepts that must be clear when we think about ways to help the civil law system to introduce the restorative practices in the criminal law system. Additionally, the authors compare European Union criminal law to the classical meaning of criminal law. The historical development of supranational criminal law is examined, including the different roles of the judicial practice and legislative acts and improving upon the competence of the European Union in criminal law. Lastly, the authors examine the origins and development of penitentiary law in the law schools of Buenos Aires, Córdoba and La Plata between 1887 and 1955. Although in the earlier times of this period only the universities of Buenos Aires and Córdoba were active in the field, the University of La Plata has been included in order to have a complete overview of the academic world in those years.

Book Description
This edited volume provides a broad perspective on the International Criminal Court's development over time and explores some of its topical issues, achievements, challenges and critiques. The anthology combines reflections from scholars and practitioners and includes voices from inside and outside the Court, featuring multiple readings of its activities, practice and developments. In line with the volume's title, the authors portray the establishment and development of the Court (hence the theme 'past'), critically engage with its successes and challenges ('present'), and draw conclusions on its achievements and way forward ('future'). The book examines five key topics: prosecutorial policy and strategy, jurisdiction and admissibility, victims and witnesses, defence issues, and legitimacy and independence. It includes a number of papers and speeches given at the Nuremberg Forum 2018. The book includes chapters by Benjamin B. Ferencz, Leila Nadya Sadat, Christopher R.F.
