Book Description
Bradford Skow presents an original defense of the 'block universe' theory of time, often said to be a theory according to which time does not pass. Along the way, he provides in-depth discussions of alternative theories of time, including those in which there is 'robust passage' of time or 'objective becoming': presentism, the moving spotlight theory of time, the growing block theory of time, and the 'branching time' theory of time. Skow explains why the moving spotlight theory is the best of these arguments, and rebuts several popular arguments against the thesis that time passes. He surveys the problems that the special theory of relativity has been thought to raise for objective becoming, and suggests ways in which fans of objective becoming may reconcile their view with relativistic physics. The last third of the book aims to clarify and evaluate the argument that we should believe that time passes because, somehow, the passage of time is given to us in experience. He isolates three separate arguments this idea suggests, and explains why they fail.

Book Description
As twenty-first-century Christians, we must relate to the world, but the question is, how do we relate to it? Some Christians isolate themselves and develop a bunker mentality, while others are inattentive, viewing the world as irrelevant and maintaining a kind of distant ignorance that lacks sincere compassion. Still others, motivated by doing good to others, emulate the world and simply meld into the environment. In Passing Through: Pilgrim Life in the Wilderness, Pastor Jeremy Walker offers us a helpful, encouraging guide to making our way through this life as we root our activities in our identity as disciples of Jesus Christ. He reminds us that we need "the Word of God as our map and the Spirit of Christ as our compass" in order to embrace our identity and pursue our activities to the praise and glory of our God and Savior.

Book Description
"A fascinating, sensitive, and well-researched book that enhances our understanding of the history of Shady Side, the history of Maryland, and the history of America. It's a story that's entertaining, educational, and important." --Kenneth T. Walsh, journalist and author of "Family of Freedom: Presidents and African Americans in the White House" "A must-read, interesting book. Full of mores of yesterday and today." -- Mohan Grover, unoffi cial Shady Side mayor; owner of Renno's Market "When Ms. Widdifield first approached me about her book-writing project, I was skeptical. After all, what could a spit of a woman with dainty eyes and light blond hair who spends her winters in sunny Florida possibly know about the lives of African Americans? Yet she approached this project with a passion and confidence that I have not seen in many seasoned historians. The results of her efforts say it all. Widdifield has brought the lives and stories of this waterside community alive and, in the process, has filled avoid in the history books of southern Maryland." -- Judith A. Cabral, Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation "Passing Through Shady Side is a rich, vivid account of a largely untold story: the history of African American families that have farmed and worked the waters surrounding the Shady Side peninsula for nearly two centuries. Ann Widdifield has brought to life the generations that have given Shady Side its special character, traditions and vitality." -- Terence Smith, journalist and Shady Side resident

Book Description
(Limelight). A critic and writer on dance for well over twenty years, Barbara Newman has gone in search of teachers and coaches, directors, choreographers and stagers former dancers who had turned the focus of their own experience on others to explain the state of ballet today. Among leaders of the dance world the author interviewed were Suki Schorer, Helgi Tomasson, Mark Morris, Violette Verdy and 14 other artists whose work she knew and respected, most of them active outside of New York and London. Newman is not interested in dance as an aesthetic abstraction, and the people who answered her questions were not speaking theoretically. On the contrary, her speculation and their responses bring an elusive subject down to earth, illuminating a process that reaches back in history and forward to today, though its dreams are of a world no one can imagine.
