It would be necessary to consider well in what terms the meeting is to be called, probably of lay members of the Church who concur in the resolutions of the Convocation, whether elders or not. I write by to-day's post to Dunlop and to K., but shall perhaps not write to more " BANCHORY, 17th Dec. 1842. "MY DEAR HAMILTON, --With regard to my meeting I think there would be a risk in a public advertisement of it, and that at all events this should not be thought of till very near the time if that should appear advisable, and that, in the meantime, we should be corresponding with parties in different counties who are friendly, and trying to get them to promise to attend. Mr. Buchan of Kelloe writes me we shall be so few that we shall only, he fears, expose our weakness, while my friend Durie thinks we shall be so many that we could get no place in Edinburgh to hold us!! " I think the meeting should be confined to noblemen and gentlemen, heritors in Scotland, and that the day of meeting should be Tuesday, 24th January, being a full week before the meeting of Parliament.
