Book Description
This book deals with the analysis of linear operators from a quasi-Banach function space into a Banach space. The central theme is to extend the operator to as large a (function) space as possible, its optimal domain, and to take advantage of this in analyzing the original operator. Most of the material appears in print for the first time. The book has an interdisciplinary character and is aimed at graduates, postgraduates, and researchers in modern operator theory.

A Glimpse at Hilbert Space Operators

Book Description
Paul Richard Halmos, who lived a life of unbounded devotion to mathematics and to the mathematical community, died at the age of 90 on October 2, 2006. This volume is a memorial to Paul by operator theorists he inspired. Paul’sinitial research, beginning with his 1938Ph.D. thesis at the University of Illinois under Joseph Doob, was in probability, ergodic theory, and measure theory. A shift occurred in the 1950s when Paul’s interest in foundations led him to invent a subject he termed algebraic logic, resulting in a succession of papers on that subject appearing between 1954 and 1961, and the book Algebraic Logic, published in 1962. Paul’s ?rst two papers in pure operator theory appeared in 1950. After 1960 Paul’s research focused on Hilbert space operators, a subject he viewed as enc- passing ?nite-dimensional linear algebra. Beyond his research, Paul contributed to mathematics and to its community in manifold ways: as a renowned expositor, as an innovative teacher, as a tireless editor, and through unstinting service to the American Mathematical Society and to the Mathematical Association of America. Much of Paul’s in?uence ?owed at a personal level. Paul had a genuine, uncalculating interest in people; he developed an enormous number of friendships over the years, both with mathematicians and with nonmathematicians. Many of his mathematical friends, including the editors ofthisvolume, whileabsorbingabundantquantitiesofmathematicsatPaul’sknee, learned from his advice and his example what it means to be a mathematician.

Topics in Complex Analysis and Operator Theory
Author: Oscar Blasco
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 0821852752
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 266
Book Description
This book contains the lecture notes as well as some invited papers presented at the Third Winter School in Complex Analysis, Operator Theory and Applications held February 2-5, 2010, in Valencia, Spain. The book is divided into two parts. The first is an extended self-contained version of the mini-courses taught at the School. The papers in this first part are: Notes on real analytic functions and classical operators, by Pawel Domanski; Shining a Hilbertian lamp on the bidisk, by John E. McCarthy; Selected problems in perturbation theory, by Vladimir V. Peller; and Composition operators on Hardy-Orlicz spaces, by Luis Rodriguez-Piazza. The second part consists of several research papers on recent advances in the area and some survey articles of an expository character. The articles in this second part are: Remarks on weighted mixed norm spaces, by O. Blasco; Interpolation subspaces of $L^1$ of a vector measure and norm inequalities for the integration operator, by J.M. Calabuig, J. Rodriguez, and E.A. Sanchez-Perez; On the spectra of algebras of analytic functions, by D. Carando, D. Garcia, M. Maestre, and P. Sevilla-Peris; Holomorphic self-maps of the disk intertwining two linear fractional maps, by M.D. Contreras, S. Diaz-Madrigal, M.J. Martin, and D. Vukotic; ABC-type estimates via Garsia-type norms, by K.M. Dyakonov; and Volterra type operators on Bergman spaces with exponential weights, by J. Pau and J.A. Pelaez. The topics selected for the mini-courses cover several aspects of complex analysis and operator theory that play important roles in understanding connections between different areas that are considered in fashion these days. This part is aimed at graduate students and young researchers. The courses are self-contained, focusing on those aspects that are basic and that can lead the readers to a quick understanding of the theories presented in each topic. They start with the classical results and reach a selection of open problems in each case. The research and survey articles are aimed at young researchers in the area, as well as post-doc and senior researchers interested in complex analysis and operator theory. This book is published in cooperation with Real Sociedad Matematica Espanola.

Ulam Type Stability
Author: Janusz Brzdęk
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030289729
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 515
Book Description
This book is an outcome of two Conferences on Ulam Type Stability (CUTS) organized in 2016 (July 4-9, Cluj-Napoca, Romania) and in 2018 (October 8-13, 2018, Timisoara, Romania). It presents up-to-date insightful perspective and very resent research results on Ulam type stability of various classes of linear and nonlinear operators; in particular on the stability of many functional equations in a single and several variables (also in the lattice environments, Orlicz spaces, quasi-b-Banach spaces, and 2-Banach spaces) and some orthogonality relations (e.g., of Birkhoff–James). A variety of approaches are presented, but a particular emphasis is given to that of fixed points, with some new fixed point results and their applications provided. Besides these several other topics are considered that are somehow related to the Ulam stability such as: invariant means, geometry of Banach function modules, queueing systems, semi-inner products and parapreseminorms, subdominant eigenvalue location of a bordered diagonal matrix and optimal forward contract design for inventory. New directions and several open problems regarding stability and non-stability concepts are included. Ideal for use as a reference or in a seminar, this book is aimed toward graduate students, scientists and engineers working in functional equations, difference equations, operator theory, functional analysis, approximation theory, optimization theory, and fixed point theory who wish to be introduced to a wide spectrum of relevant theories, methods and applications leading to interdisciplinary research. It advances the possibilities for future research through an extensive bibliography and a large spectrum of techniques, methods and applications.
