Thermomechanics of Viscoplasticity
Author: Milan Micunovic
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 038789490X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 249
Book Description
This work examines the geometrical and thermodynamical properties of mechanical behavior of metals and many polymeric and paste-like materials which are indispensable for developing a rational theory of viscoplasticity. The book is intended for researchers as well as Ph.D. students in the fields of material science and continuum mechanics. Anyone involved in the design of large scale industrial parts will also find this book highly useful. The concepts and results illustrated in this work are readily applicable to the rapidly developing field of biomechanics.

On the Thermodynamic Foundation of Plasticity
Author: K. C. Valanis
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Plasticity
Languages : en
Pages : 24
Book Description
Mechanical constitutive equations for plastic materials are given a sound thermodynamic origin through the axiom that "the infinitesimal increment of irreversible entropy is a function only of the current stress and the current stress increment." As a result of this axiom and the Clausius-Duhem inequality, it is shown that: (a) a plastic material behaves plastically during loading and elastically during unloading ; (b) for each stress state there exists, in stress space, a surface known as the yield surface, which determines whether a stress increment constitutes loading of unloading; (c) the classical constitutive equations of plasticity follow and a corresponding constitutive equation for large plastic deformation is derived.
