Statistical Properties of Deterministic Systems
Author: Jiu Ding
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540853677
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 248
Book Description
Part of Tsinghua University Texts, "Statistical Properties of Deterministic Systems" discusses the fundamental theory and computational methods of the statistical properties of deterministic discrete dynamical systems. After introducing some basic results from ergodic theory, two problems related to the dynamical system are studied: first the existence of absolute continuous invariant measures, and then their computation. They correspond to the functional analysis and numerical analysis of the Frobenius-Perron operator associated with the dynamical system. The book can be used as a text for graduate students in applied mathematics and in computational mathematics; it can also serve as a reference book for researchers in the physical sciences, life sciences, and engineering. Dr. Jiu Ding is a professor at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Southern Mississippi; Dr. Aihui Zhou is a professor at the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Dynamical Systems and Statistical Mechanics
Author: I͡Akov Grigorʹevich Sinaĭ
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 9780821841020
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 266
Book Description
Dynamical systems and statistical mechanics have been developing in close interaction during the past decade, and the papers in this book attest to the productiveness of this interaction. The first paper in the collection contains a new result in the theory of quantum chaos, a burgeoning line of inquiry which combines mathematics and physics and which is likely in time to produce many new connections and applications. Another paper, related to the renormalization group method for the study of maps of the circle with singularities due to a jump in the derivative, demonstrates that the fixed point of the renormgroup can in this case be sufficiently described. In certain situations, the renormgroup methods work better than the traditional KAM method. Other topics covered include: thermodynamic formalism for certain infinite-dimensional dynamical systems, numerical simulation of dynamical systems with hyperbolic behaviour, periodic points of holomorphic maps, the theory of random media, statistical properties of the leading eigenvalue in matrix ensembles of large dimension, spectral properties of the one-dimensional Schrodinger operator. This volume will appeal to many readers, as it covers a broad range of topics and presents a view of some of the frontier research in the Soviet Union today.

Statistical Properties of Chaotic Dynamical Systems

Book Description
In this thesis, some statistical properties of two interesting problems are studied. The first one is about non-stationary central limit theorems. We establish central limit theorems for a sequence of nested balls using martingale difference array technique, under certain conditions. It applies to various dynamical systems, including smooth expanding maps of the interval, Rychlik type maps, Gibbs-Markov maps, rational maps, and piecewise expanding maps in higher dimension. And the second problem is about the Lorenz Systems. We study a family of Geometrical Lorenz Models, which have very similar properties to Lorenz Systems and are easier to study. Based on the model, we establish dynamical Borel Cantelli lemmas and convergence of rare event points processes to Poisson processes, which implies Extreme Value Theory.

Extremes and Recurrence in Dynamical Systems
Author: Valerio Lucarini
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 111863229X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 314
Book Description
Written by a team of international experts, Extremes and Recurrence in Dynamical Systems presents a unique point of view on the mathematical theory of extremes and on its applications in the natural and social sciences. Featuring an interdisciplinary approach to new concepts in pure and applied mathematical research, the book skillfully combines the areas of statistical mechanics, probability theory, measure theory, dynamical systems, statistical inference, geophysics, and software application. Emphasizing the statistical mechanical point of view, the book introduces robust theoretical embedding for the application of extreme value theory in dynamical systems. Extremes and Recurrence in Dynamical Systems also features: • A careful examination of how a dynamical system can serve as a generator of stochastic processes • Discussions on the applications of statistical inference in the theoretical and heuristic use of extremes • Several examples of analysis of extremes in a physical and geophysical context • A final summary of the main results presented along with a guide to future research projects • An appendix with software in Matlab® programming language to help readers to develop further understanding of the presented concepts Extremes and Recurrence in Dynamical Systems is ideal for academics and practitioners in pure and applied mathematics, probability theory, statistics, chaos, theoretical and applied dynamical systems, statistical mechanics, geophysical fluid dynamics, geosciences and complexity science. Geometric Theory of Dynamical Systems

Book Description
... cette etude qualitative (des equations difj'erentielles) aura par elle-m me un inter t du premier ordre ... HENRI POINCARE, 1881. We present in this book a view of the Geometric Theory of Dynamical Systems, which is introductory and yet gives the reader an understanding of some of the basic ideas involved in two important topics: structural stability and genericity. This theory has been considered by many mathematicians starting with Poincare, Liapunov and Birkhoff. In recent years some of its general aims were established and it experienced considerable development. More than two decades passed between two important events: the work of Andronov and Pontryagin (1937) introducing the basic concept of structural stability and the articles of Peixoto (1958-1962) proving the density of stable vector fields on surfaces. It was then that Smale enriched the theory substantially by defining as a main objective the search for generic and stable properties and by obtaining results and proposing problems of great relevance in this context. In this same period Hartman and Grobman showed that local stability is a generic property. Soon after this Kupka and Smale successfully attacked the problem for periodic orbits. We intend to give the reader the flavour of this theory by means of many examples and by the systematic proof of the Hartman-Grobman and the Stable Manifold Theorems (Chapter 2), the Kupka-Smale Theorem (Chapter 3) and Peixoto's Theorem (Chapter 4). Several ofthe proofs we give vii Introduction Vlll are simpler than the original ones and are open to important generalizations.

Geometry and Topology in Hamiltonian Dynamics and Statistical Mechanics
Author: Marco Pettini
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387499571
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 460
Book Description
This book covers a new explanation of the origin of Hamiltonian chaos and its quantitative characterization. The author focuses on two main areas: Riemannian formulation of Hamiltonian dynamics, providing an original viewpoint about the relationship between geodesic instability and curvature properties of the mechanical manifolds; and a topological theory of thermodynamic phase transitions, relating topology changes of microscopic configuration space with the generation of singularities of thermodynamic observables. The book contains numerous illustrations throughout and it will interest both mathematicians and physicists.
