This report presents the results of an Air Force Occupational Survey of the Aircraft Metals Technology career ladder, Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) 2A7X1. Authority for conducting occupational surveys is contained in AFI 36-2623. Copies of this report and pertinent computer printouts are distributed to the Air Force Functional Manager, the operations training location, all major using commands, and other interested operations and training officials. Mr. Michael F. Brosnan, Inventory Development Specialist, developed the survey instrument. Second Lieutenant David A. Huber, Occupational Analyst, analyzed the data and wrote the final report. Mrs. Jeanie C. Guesman provided computer programming support. Senior Airman Therese A. Cofer provided administrative support. This report has been reviewed and approved by Lieutenant Colonel Roger W. Barnes, Chief Airman Analysis Section, Occupational Analysis Flight, Air Force Occupational Measurement Squadron (AFOMS).

This is report of an occupational survey of the Aircraft Metals Technology career ladder (AFSC 458X0) conducted by the Occupational Analysis Flight, USAF Occupational Measurement Squadron. Headquarters (HQ) Air Education and Training Command (AETC). Technical Training Operations Directorate, requested this survey to accommodate the Rivet Workforce merger of AFSCs 427X4 (Metals Processing) and 427X0 (Machinist) in October 1989. The survey was administered after the initial turbulence of the merger had settled, but before the centralization of the technical training schools at Aberdeen Proving Ground MD in October 1993. The current (15 September 1992) Plan of Instruction (POI) was obtained for this study. The results of analysis are included in the TRAINING ANALYSIS section of this report. The last survey reports pertaining to AFSC 458X0 career ladder were published in August 1985 (Metals Processing) and August 1987 (Machinist).

Task analysis is a process used to determine how to perform a specific task within a specific duty and is a systematic study to determine the activities, skills and knowledge, resources, publications, tools, and equipment required to perform that task. These reports are primarily designed to assist unit-level personnel (both active and reserve) in standardizing their on-the-job training programs.
