Verificou-se o conhecimento da professora de pre-escola sobre aspectos de saude do pre-escolar considerando-se as areas de saude bucal, visual, atendimento de urgencia e prevencao de acidentes. Foi realizado por meio de questionario, abrangendo uma populacao de 178 professoras, ou seja 92,7% do total das docentes das Escolas Municipais de Educacao Infantil (EMEIS) de Campinas, em novembro de 1984. Os principais resultados indicam que a variavel formacao profissional nao se apresentou associada a nenhum conhecimento sobre as areas de saude estudadas. Entretanto, as variaveis tempo de trabalho e faixa etaria demonstraram-se associadas apenas ao conhecimento da area de saude bucal. O nivel de conhecimento das professoras como um todo foi conceituado como regular. Isoladamente, a media de acertos na area de saude visual obteve o conceito bom. Estes dados indicam a necessidade de melhoria do preparo do professor em aspectos de saude no sistema de formacao profissional para pre-escola, aliada ao desenvolvimento de programas de educacao continuada que contemplem tambem a atualizacao do professor na area de saude.
