Abstract: The special needs of the pregnant teenager for basic nutrition knowledge are addressed in a curriculum module developed for teachers, dietitians or nurses who counsel pregnant adolescents. Four module blocks are organized around these nutrition concepts: factors influencing teenage food habits; nutrient needs of mother and baby; medical consequences of poor nutrition or drug abuse; and choosing a nutritionally adequate diet for the pregnant adolescent. Each block contains skills, knowledge, learning activities, teaching aids and resources. An appendix provides visual materials that can be duplicated as transparencies or student handouts.
